Why don't you consider adopting one from a rescue in your area? Plenty of great dogs needing a good home.

If you can find a Yorkie in Maryland for less than 1,200, you're probably getting a genetically defect puppy mill dog. Yorkies are expensive everywhere right now, and in MD the prices are sky-high.

Make sure you do your research and worry more about the quality and health of the dog you're buying than the price tag.

Alyssa is right -if you pay less than $1,200 dollars, then you will end up supporting a backyard breeder or a puppy mill. If you can't afford that, then you should find a yorkie rescue. That way you will get the breed you want, save your money, and avoiding contributing to animal cruelty. The best way is to go to http://www.petfinder.com and type in your zip code and select your breed.

PS Don't forget to check the classified section. Sometimes people who found abandoned dogs are trying to find a home for them.
