ignorance, power and greed. The desire for money divides the world as much or more than does religion. The desire for power is a great motivator of war these days. Whether one wants financial power as the westerns do, or the warring factions in Africa.

it depends on who is dividing and what kind of catagory the people are put into ,,,useing what I would have to say a very strict catagory considering its a division
PEOPLE/ANIMALS (inhabitants of the world)

and spliting it down the middle Gods people/ not Gods people

heaven/hell

Its not the religion that divides man its the men that preach it.
Religion brings different ideas to one basic truth / there is only one God.
Men are the ones that can not handle more then one truth. For them its black or white but religion is like a ice cream parlor. Does not matter which flavor is your favoritee as long as you have a favorit flavor.

don't stereo-type religions, MOST are good.
Most religions teach peace and love and helping each other.
But there are a few nuts out there who want to control the world, there called muslims!
