I've tried every type out there, and let me tell you, the only thing that works is vacuuming.

Flea eggs are nearly indestructable, so you have new babies hatching into your treated house every few days. Unless you want to bomb once a week, it's pointless.

Vacuum twice a day for 2 weeks. Yes, I know, it's a lot, but it's worth it. The next 2 weeks, only vacum every other day. After that, once a week should be OK, as long as the pets and yard are treated.
Don't forget in, on and under furniture, beds (human and pet) and wash everything that will fit into the washing machine.
Empty the vacuum outside after each cleaning. You don't want the bugs escaping.

You also have to treat the pets. If you don't get products from the vet, it's pointless to do anything else. Advantage and Frontline do the best. NEVER buy "spot on" treatments from the pet store. They are harmful and don't work.

If you have a yard, you need an exterminator. Trust me, don't mess around with anything else, they have the products that work and work well. You have to re-treat the yard a few times. At least every 2 weeks for 3 treatments.

Yup, salt will do nothing, as you've discovered.

Please don't waste your time and money on ANY flea products from shops. 95% of them (a rough guess) are highly ineffective, simply because petshops are not licensed to sell the appropriate meds for effective flea extermination. You will end up pouring lots of money into trying to find a product that works.

Please buy products from a vet. You need to treat your dog AND your carpet to break the flea life-cycle of hatching, pupating and growing into an adult. I recommend Frontline Plus for your dog because it kills the adult fleas AND the eggs.

Use something like Staykil, Indorex or Acclaim for your house. You will likely need to spray, hoover a few hours later (and dispose of the bag) and then repeat this process in a couple of days to get the eggs that have hatched in between.

Please trust me on this one and you will be flea free!

Is this question with regards to your cat having fleas or are you just trying to seek advice for getting rid of fleas in your house? Methinks you are posting in the wrong section. But if you do have a cat that's bring fleas into the house, killing all the fleas in the house won't work until you deal with the root of the problem and deal with the fleas on the cat (see a vet if flea medication like Frontline doesn't work).

You would be best in paying a professional company to come out and help you, if in your carpet, they are certain to be in your grass.....
For my dogs I purchase a powder called "Viper" found at most "Country Feed Stores..."I place it in a sock and pat it all over the dogs......The powder will cause the fleas to have trouble breathing....which they cannot do with this powder......You could sprinkle it on your carpet and then vacuum up. throw bag out in trash.
I'd also recommend "Frontline" flea and tick oil for your pets..

Forget the bug bomb, get a flea shampoo and use Frontline every month. In short order your dog and your house will be free of fleas.
