"Monsoon" is a type of factory upgrade sound system that's found in many vehicles, especially GM or Volkswagen models. "Subwoofer" means that the system includes a speaker or speakers that are made just to play bass, so the system should have a lot more bass than a standard factory audio system. Monsoon systems typically include a separate factory amplifier and more speakers than the basic option sound system.

Monsoon car audio systems are generally only available as a factory option; you can't go to a store and buy Monsoon speakers or CD players.

If you have a vehicle with a Monsoon system and want to replace the factory audio components with after-market ones, usually you can replace the factory radio without much trouble and continue using the factory amplifier and speakers. However, if you want to change out the speakers with after-market upgrades, having a Monsoon system makes this much more difficult.

They stuck a very big, amplified speaker in the trunk to provide a lot of bass. Monsoon makes the system.
