find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day

cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.

well, that's quite hard, if you want to lose the weight and OBTAIN it, too. anyway, what you need to do is FIRSTLY walking a lot, about an hour or more every day. for the first ten minutes walk at a normal pace. Then walk faster for the next five min, then slow down ..etc. That is, don't have the same utility all the time during the exercise cuz then your body will relax and you wont lose calories. 2nd, and equally important is your nutrition. Try not missing any meal! that's crucial! ALWAYS eat breakfast; e.g. a glass of low-fat (NOT 0%, though) milk and a cereal bar. The best is "Alpen light, chocolate & fudge" with 25.1g fibre and low fat! It's important to eat breakfast every single day, cuz by eating it, you "switch on" you metabolism from the morning, thus you start burning calories quickly. Try eating 2 portions of vegetables and 3 fruits daily, cuz they are really good antioxidant, so they help your body lose the fat easier! Plus, prefer foods/snacks with a lot of fibres and a few sugar. They're antioxidant, too. But NEVER EVER choose the 0% type stuff! They do nothing good to you. Try eating the half of what you used to. Just divide the food on your plate in two, and eat the one part only. Cut down on soda and sweets. Eat only the dark chocolate, which has a lot of cocoa. You can eat a bar daily. Avoid eating a normal dinner. You can just eat a portion of salad/ OR a low-fat joghurt and a fruit, about 2-3 hours before going to bed.

I found the book to be very informative and easy to read.
I've lost 17 pounds in 12 days, I'm just concerned that I'm losing too much weight, too quickly. I will admit I haven't followed the guide exactly. I'm not sticking perfectly to the listed foods and meal plans (but mostly) and doing very little exercise, but the weight keeps flying off.
It clearly works and if I'd followed it exactly I think it would scare the living daylights out of me because of the amount that I'd lose. So thanks again for the information. I've never purchased anything like this before because they are usually full of trash, but 3WD has been a pleasant surprise.

Losing weight is a simple equation: if you burn more calories than you eat, the weight will come off. Start off by estimating how many calories you burn each day using the calorie calculator http://straighthealth.com/pages/tools/caloriecalclb.html This will give you an idea of how many calories to eat. Healthy weight loss is 1-2 pounds per week. To lose 1 pound per week you need to create a calorie deficit (burn more than you eat) of 500 calories per day. To lose 2 pounds a week, you have to double the deficit to 1000 calories per day. You can achieve this by eating less, exercising more or a combination of both.

It doesn't sound like it would be healthy for you to lose weight at your age, height, and bmi. I think you should go see your doctor before you do anything that could cause you physical harm... you may cause irreparable damage and you certainly don't want that. You can always make sure that you're eating healthy and exercising regularly which it sounds like you do if you're swimming. I really think you ought to see a doctor before starting anything.

I would think that any FAST weight loss would be unhealthy and degrade your swimming skills. Any benefit from the weight loss to you swimming, would be vastly outweighed by the loss of energy and physical fitness.
