Wa a'leikum esalam. ^^
Ali in Islam, music in general is not allowed but there are a few exceptions. When you really are sad and feeling down Ali, why would you turn to music when your Qur'an is right there next to you? (that is judging from your name, you are a Muslim)
Go on ahead wash and pray to your God and ask Him to lift whatever burdens you. After all, Your Creator is there always looking over you and in the end if you feel all alone and depressed remember He is always there looking down at us all (even though sometimes it appears you really are alone, you are not). So go on ahead, cheer up the right way and strengthen your faith and remember, as the proverb goes "when God closes a door, he opens a window".
Hope that helps ^^

Say, "Who prohibited the nice things GOD has created for His creatures, and the good provisions?" Say, "Such provisions are to be enjoyed in this life by those who believe. Moreover, the good provisions will be exclusively theirs on the Day of Resurrection." We thus explain the revelations for people who know.
Say, "My Lord prohibits only evil deeds, be they obvious or hidden, and sins, and unjustifiable aggression, and to set up beside GOD powerless idols, and to say about GOD what you do not know." (Holy Koran 7:32-33)
I believe music is one of the "nice" things mentioned in Koran 7:32, so I don't see any reason why listening to music is not allowed. I personally believe we may listen to music in every occasion.

I'm not a Muslim, but I know for a fact that depends on where you live. In stricter Muslim countries, it is forbidden to listen to any music. However, in others (Turkey, Egypt, Pakistan) music may be censored, but its is allowed somewhat.
My point: It depends on who you are and how you exercise your religious faith.

it depends what kind of music you want to listen, if it is music of corruption ,pleasure and destruction of your behavior and to make you flying without wings this is not good, but if it is a music of evaluation to your life and construction to your self and serve you to find peace and at the end lead you to summit to your God will and make your prayers daily that must be your music.

Scholars dispute much about this issue, but if you do something useful like praying, that would be a lot better for sure.
