No they don't meditate 24/7, but they do break up their day into periods of prayer and spritual reading and work. In general they try to live with their thoughts and hearts turned to God, but like all of us, sometimes they fail. Even when they become forgetful, another period of prayer will come along to 'nudge' them back into awareness.

"monks" covers a lot of territory, including non-theistic and theistic communities and traditions. Buddhist monks may be the first that leap to mind for me, but you could just as easily be asking about Catholic monks . . . and I don't know whether they meditate at all. more like round-the-clock prayer, I suppose.
among certain traditions of Buddhist practice, it is believed that a very experienced practitioner can attain through meditation a constant state of awareness through which every moment, even sleeping moments, can be transformed into a meditative state. there are "mindfulness" practices for eating, bathing, walking, sleeping -- all aimed at resting in the natural awareness of mind. one need not be a monk or lama to achieve this, although in practical terms most of us with families and jobs and such are unlikely to live in circumstances that allow such undistracted mindfulness for extended periods of time. but this is one of the aims of the long, solitary retreats that are part of a Buddhist monk's training. I have a friend who has been an ordained monk for four years and has worked his way up from weeks in retreat to months in retreat, and embarks next week on a full year in solitary retreat. in our Tibetan tradition (Gelugpa lineage) the three-year solitary retreat is considered a critical milestone.

Exercise is different from meditation. You can sit comfortably in a pose for hours, but true meditation is uncovering the truth of your being. How can you compare with this knowledge is impossible. So you don't need to meditate for ever, you only need to experience it just once, and it opens up inside of you, filling your heart with joy. You can never understand anything greater than this!

Depends on what KIND of monk, Christian, Buddhist? And what order or group they're with. Some Buddhist monks can sit meditation for days on end w/o moving.

part...nobody could POSSIBLY meditate 24/7....but i guess they do spend a LOT of time meditating and don't waste time for things other than essentials such as eating and stuff :)
LOL! i HIGHLY doubt if monks meditating with the motive of attaining enlightenment would have sex....they lead celibatic lifestyles :)
