Chalice, good answer.
Just so you know, Linda J is a spammer. She answers about half of the questions, and the rest she just copies her dog food speech. It is annoying.

Yes, it sounds very much like the dog is becoming diabetic - he's displaying all the classic signs.

Please take him to the vet - they can ascertain if he's diabetic from a blood test. Diabetes is common in older animals, and people. It needs to be controlled otherwise this behaviour is going to get a lot worse until the dog becomes very ill indeed.

I can't believe the second answer started rambling on about the pet food recall! 'Your vet office may not know what to recommend' - oh, but you do do you? You know better than a vet?? Newsflash: not every illness is caused by pet food!! The recalled petfood causes kidney and liver failure - the dog is showing signs of diabetes!!

You need to get your dog checked out and a blood chemistry and urinalysis performed. She is most likely becoming diabetic, or developing cushing's disease. Either way, you need to have her diagnosed so you can treat the disease.

The syptoms she's showing is called polydipsia/polyurea (drinking lots, peeing lots) and the associated weight gain and lethargy are highly indicitive of diabetes (even more likely if she has always been overweight) or cushing's disease. Both can be treated, and if you want her to live a longer happy life you should get her diagnosed asap, because if left untreated she will die.
