I got married 2 weeks ago in a registry office and I wore a 'proper' wedding dress! I never gave it a second though to be honest. Personally, there was no other option for me - the thought of wearing anything else never came into the equation. It's not any less of a wedding because it's in a registry office, so why shouldn't you wear a dress? Enjoy your day when it comes!

Registry Office Wedding Dress

where are you? some registry offices have very nice pre-decorated areas for weddings where it would be perfectly appropriate to wear a proper wedding dress. not a princess ball gown or anything like that, but a pretty wedding dress just the same. even if you are in an area where the weddings are just done in a plain office, many of the brides were wedding dresses and have flowers and everything. but if you don't want to wear a wedding dress, then find a pretty spring dress you might want to wear to church or something. this is a good time to be looking since it is easter season.

Actually, the better question is whether a "proper wedding dress" is ever proper, considering the cost and that it will never be worn again. Either get a dress appropriate for the wedding and everyday fine use, perhaps spending some extra money you wouldn't otherwise, or get a true work of art, like a veil or shawl, that can be displayed on the wall in the new home. Or rent, like the guy does.
And if getting a great dress, because "I can hand it down to my daughter", why aren't you wearing your mother's or grandmother's dress and why do you think your daughter will wear yours?

Hi of course you can i dont know were you read or heard that, Some people chose just to go as they are but of course its ok, everyone I know who has been married in a registry office has worn a wedding gown. Dont be put off by what people say.
If your still not sure why not pop along to your local registry office and ask the registra or just wait around and see if a married coupple comes out and see what there wearing.

I think you would feel more comfortable in a wedding dress, so dont let what people tell you get your dreams down. You wear what you want.

So yes the book is a load of rubbish and throught the book out and dont let it put any more rubbish in that head of yours.

I got married in a registry office, and I still wore a proper white wedding dress. I also had two little bridesmaids. You can do what you like. We had lots of family there, and had all our photos taken afterwards outside. That was 11 years ago.
Don't take any notice of the book you are reading. Good luck,

I am wearing a proper wedding dress for my wedding day in July. We are getting married in a registry office. But you can wear whatever you like in a registry office. Some churches restrict you on showing bare shoulders or no straps.

Best wishes.

You can wear what you like, including a wetsuit and flippers if the mood so took you. You could probably even get married in your underwear or completely in the buff as long as you warned the registrar beforehand. They can't really refuse you within reason, and even if they did, you'd probably have a case under the human rights act.

My aunt had a register office wedding where everyone went in country and western outfits - cowboys, guns, saloon tarts, the whole deal. They might have looked completely stupid and out of place, but no-one stopped them. A normal wedding dress is quite sane by comparison!

You wear what you want to wear, what is comfortable and what fits in with the rest of wedding party.

I work in a Registry Office and we tell the parties to wear something suitable to the occasion. Casual clothes and "funny costumes" (ie, Mickey Mouse or Elvis) are frowned upon and may result in the ceremony not going ahead.

The Registrar, or the person who booked your marriage, should have advised you on this aspect.
