I play Ultimate Frisbee in a club, and a friend mentioned that I should work my legs out more when I'm at the gym, as the area in which I live is... not the best place to go for a jog. I'd like to know which muscles are exercised when running, so as to know what machines to use to increase my endurance.

Quadriceps...hamstrings, Glutes (Butt), calves.

Start out with squats ..there are probably a couple of different machines you can use there for squats.
Or you can just hold dumbbells on your shoulders, feet about shoulder width apart, abs engaged, back as straight as you can manage, butt out. Squat like you are pretending to sit down. Press back up thru the heels to starting position. Do not lock knees when coming up.

Leg Extension machine would be good for your quads (front of thigh).
Leg Curl machine would be good for your hamstrings.
Calf raise for your....you guessed it! Calves.

don't forget to work your abdominal muscles as well.
And seeing that you throw your frisbee...work your back and shoulders too!
Have fun

Be careful! I was a three mile three times a week walker, as I have Arthritis. However seems walking was tightening my hamstrings and tight hamstrings are not good, so make sure you learn how to stretch muscles after the gym work out.
