Ok i know this is the wrong category, but the correct category gave me no answers. What puzzles me is i can throw an 8 pound shot over 40 feet, but i can only throw a 9 pound 1 under 30, i can throw a ball that weights 1 pound less over 10 more feet, so does 1 pound REALLY make THAT much of a difference?

The short answer YES! You should know the 'technique' involved in shot put and the muscles used and body stance involved to gain the BEST performance. However the heavier the weight and one pound in shot put is akin to six pounds in real weight, will make a difference. It is not like running and leaving go of a ball, because you have all the energy floating through your body to launch that ball. Shot is less energy but compact sudden launch. It is all technique and practice makes perfect!

This has got to be a mental thing. Yes, a pound makes a difference, I am shotput thrower myself, but i don't think it should make a 10 foot difference. I'm no expert though.

Have you tried a math section. Maybe it's more about physics? Worth a shot, no pun intended.
