Hi,

there is hardly an anorexic person anywhere who would claim to be anorexic...the whole problem is that sufferers do not recognise that they are slim, thin or even skeletal.

You ask what should you do? I suggest you LISTEN. Friends will not normally be attempting to deceive you about your weight or size. If they continually claim you are thin and you think you are not, then you may be approaching anorexia.

I sincerely hope not, but if you are you will need medical help. A quick visit to your doctor will quickly establish whether you are overweight, normal or underweight. It is the first (and very necessary step) If your doctor says you ARE overweight, then a good diet and excercise plan will overcome that for you. If, however, you are 'normal' or underweight, you need to address your own mental state.

A warning...I had a cousin, who lived in Wyoming, she was six months older than I. Seven or eight years ago she , convinced she was overweight, starved herself until she weighed just 46 lb. She is now dead.

She THOUGHT she was overweight, she wasn't, she was like a skeleton. Her mind told her continually that she was fat. Not in your case? I sincerely hope not, but take that trip to the doctor first...he or she will not lie to you (if that is what you suspect your friends are doing)

Please take care of your self,

Cheers,

BobSpain

Take it from someone who knows. It doesn't matter if you are fat or skinny people will always make coments like that. I weighed 186 lbs and i would hear stuff like you are so pretty if you could just lose a few pounds. I did lost 86 lbs and now I hear you look too fragile or you look anorexic. I still feel like I am too fat. My doctor says it is from years of feeling fat and that I can not see myself the way I am. Just try not to dwell on the negative parts. When you are happy with yourself you will know it. It might help to talk to a health care professional.

It could be...

1. You're too hard on yourself. Stop being your toughest critic.

2. Other people are saying that just to make you feel better.

or...

3. You carry a little extra weight but have a slender appearance anyway.

That's it in my experience. Majority of the time it's numero uno.

If everyone else thinks you are skinny then you probably are. Some people are not capable of seeing themselves as skinny. A good place to check would be on any of several sites that can give you a good idea based on your height and weight. http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsource/weight.html

There are either two things going on one they're just trying to be nice by not calling you fat or two you see yourself as bigger than you really are which is probably what is going on. You can go to www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/dnpa/bmi and type in your height and weight and it will tell you if you're at a healthy weight or not.

People are always their own worst critic. Accept the compliments that they are giving you. If everyone tells you that you are skinny, then you probably are. Sometimes we compare ourselves to others too much and start getting too critical about our bodies.

If everyone says that you're skinny, you are probably skinny.
Just learn to accept that you're skinny and quit thinking that you're fat.
