My neighbor has invited me to her sons confirmation party. I'm not Catholic and have no idea what to do about a gift. It is appropriate to give a gift for this occasion, correct? I'd like to give him $20 in a congratulations card. Would that be good or does it need to be an actual item I give him?
Thanks!

Trust me on this one -- the money in a card will be very appreciated. By the time it's all said and done with, the kid will be swimming in crucifixes, prayer books, and rosaries from grandparents, aunts and uncles.

It's completely acceptable to give money in a card, and the son will love you for it!

Cash is OK, but a religious gift is a better choice. It shows you are supporting his decision to be Confirmed and want to help him grow in his faith.

Find a Catholic book store if you can ( protestant ones generally only have a few gifts for nonCatholics to give Catholics). A Catholic Teen Study Bible or a Catholic prayer book is a nice choice.

If you learn his Confirmation name, you may be able to find him a medal of that saint.

Cash is ok, but I still have some of the gifts I received at my Confirmation- in 1978....and they mean the world to me.

The $20 in a gift card is certainly appropriate.

Well, you can give him money, but a more personal, from the heart gift would be something like a crucifix or something to do with the Holy Spirit. Try Sts. Thomas Aquinas and More. It's a Catholic store. I'm sure you can find their website.

Very appropriate, and guaranteed to make the young man happy. He no doubt has a Bible, and isn't likey to want knick-knacks in the form of a cross, etc. And he'll no doubt get gifts like that from Catholic friends and family. The cash will be a much welcomed gift!

Cash is appropriate. Other options that would be nice are a rosary, a crucifix, a picture frame, or a Bible (a Catholic Bible of course). Hope that helps.

God bless,

$20 and a pamphlet on "inappropriate touching" just so you can be sure he knows what's up..

Get him an examination for sexual abuse. Those "Priests" are not always HOLY.
