What does it feel like?
I'm getting very worried I may be suffering from at least mild depression.
If you go to the doctor, and don't specifically adress it, will they diagnose you?
Is it like that? I'm confused as to if it is a state of mind, or an actual illness.

I have suffered from depression for the past three years. Instead of seeing a doctor, I suggest a psychiatrist. It is their job to diagnose things like this, and they can prescribe you a medication that can help.

It is an actual illness due to an inbalance of the chemicals in your brain (you can find out a lot more from wikipedia, great website). If you're young, maybe going through puberty, then that is more likely the cause of your depression. It's still serious though, and talking to a shrink is definitely the best way to go. It sure helped me, and the medication works wonders.

A major sign of depression is the loss of interest in things that you normally enjoy. Life just sort of...loses its sparkle. You don't laugh like youm used to, and you find yourself crying for no reason. When you smile, it feels fake, forced. Its an awful way to be, please, see someone and have them diagnose you. You'll be happy you did. (no pun intended)

Hope this helped :)

I had a bad case of it last winter. At first, it feels normal, but after a while it starts to kinda burn when you urinate...almost like some dial soap somehow got into your urethra.

I tried to ignore it, thinking it would eventually go away, but it just worsened day by day. The pain became unbarable. At one point the pain was so intense, I was having hallucinations.

I was expelled from school because of them. They made me crazy. I was running through the halls screaming "i'm a creator" for about 15minutes, until the police tackled me and sprayed the life out of me with pepper spray.

So now, I'm stuck here, unable to get back into school, and using a braille keyboard due to the longterm effects of the unusually large amount of pepper spray they used on me.

You have a reason to live.

Being clinically depressed is much more than just being sad/unhappy.

Symptoms include:

Sleeping too much OR not at all
Eating too much OR not at all
Finding it difficult to get out of bed, take a shower, go outdoors, do your daily tasks
Suicidal thoughts

There are many more symptoms, check them out at
http://www.about.com
Type depression in their search box in the upper right corner of that page. You can take quizzes, read on-site, have a depression newsletter mailed to you weekly (if you want), and read what people suffering with depression have to say.

If you think, after reading all that, that you are depressed, waste no time in getting to a doctor to be diagnosed. He or she will either prescribe or refer you for counseling (or both).

it's an actual very serious illness with physical symptoms as well as emotional ones.

here's a very complete set of information: http://www.nimh.nih.gov/publicat/depression.cfm

You do have to speak up about it or the doc really may miss it or misdiagnose it.

Good luck!

Clinical depression is a western approach to issues in our thinking. There are other approaches to clear the mind and alleviate thinking that leads to unpleasant states.

The more that any one things, the more they suffer. It is a choice. Think less and suffer less.
