i wanted to know if anyone had any experience with this. my pain is mainly in my legs and is moderate in am but dissipates in p.m. i am on pregnisone right now and muscle relaxers at night and this has helped greatly. i just want to be "normal" again as I am only 30. has anyone had any similar experience? i am going to a neurosurgeon for them to read the results of my mri and give me their opinion as to whether i should go to physical therapy, have epidurals and hopefully NOT surgery. Just looking for others with personal experience with this and what has/hasn't worked for them.
Thanks!

try the epidural steroid injections first. most herniated discs will recede on their own without surgery. so if you can temporarily alleviate your pain with the epidural steroid injections, you may be able to avoid surgery.

The fact that your pain comes and goes demonstrates that is has the potential to change. The fact that you are only 30 is also very promising. I would venture to say that you would benefit from PT...but be sure to see someone who has MDT (McKenzie Method of mechanical diagnosis and therapy) or manual therapy experience. A good MDT therapist will be able to tell you within 6-7 visits if they will be able to help you.

The worst that could happen is that the PT would be unable to find a movement to help you relieve the pain. If no relief comes, then you can always go to the neurosurgeon after that. I would try ALL conservative options first...once you cut, you cannot go back...

go to www.mckenziemdt.org to find a qualified professional near you.

i have had back pain numerous times but nothing to the extent of your injuries. that is good that your going to see a neurosurgeon though. however, if surgery is an option make sure you get a second opinion from another reputable surgeon. you can find out these surgeons background to if you have any doubts. just make sure that surgery is the only option. there are always other alternative medicines out there. good luck!

I had a c-5/6 fusion and the pain was gone when I left the recovery room. Hasn't been back since. (5+ years) All that PT, traction, steroids, muscle relaxers, anti-inflammatories and Chiro was a waste of time.
