My husband has tatt's all over (legs, back, arms) He's not covered in them as in they are not sleeves. But he does it because he LOVES art and has a friend who is an incredible tattoo artist.

My husband is kind, helpful, and generous. He is the farthest thing from a "punk" or "loser", but he gets judged by people as being a bad egg. As an example: When we first started dating and my nephew met him and got to know him my sister said "see darren, not ALL people with tattoos are bad". I think my husband was a bit sad that this 10 yr. old kid thought he was a bad person because of his tatt's. ( My nephew LOVES him to death now and most people who get to know him think he's a great guy).

What is your opinion?

I do believe that people with tattoos are judged as punks. People are constantly judging "books by their cover." Unfortunely, it's life and this will never stop. I can't say that I don't judge people with tattoos, that would be lying. I sometimes do. For me, it depends what the tattoos are of and if they are significant or stupid. People judging others is never going to stop and you just gotta learn to live with it. That's life. Who cares what other people say, stay true to yourself. Take care!

I personally don't have a problem with it. I'm a teacher with a tattoo (but it's on my back). I think it's unfortunate that people are judged in that way...and there is a sort of stigma about it..but I think that's gradually going away.

I have eight tattoos and get stared at a lot; the tattoos unintentinally became a weird prop that made me more approachable --like for people to ask me questions, or to show me their own tattoos. But, I think it's lame that there's still a lot of people who associate tattoos with bad things, because EVERYONE has them now; even 50 year old ladies buying $500 dollar scarves at Nieman Marcus!!

I think that there will always be people who judge others for having tattoos. It used to be that the only people with tattoos were in gangs or were "tough", etc. Nowadays, there are a lot of us who have tattoos because we love the art. I'm glad your nephew loves your husband after getting to know him and realizes that just because someone has tattoos, they are not a "loser" or a "punk". Goes back to the saying, "Don't judge others just because of the way they look."

The stigma that comes with tattoos goes back a long way.
Back in the day - Hells Angel's were considered bad news because most had tat's.
Then Bikers inherited the 'bad news' reputation.

I think society views our tattoos as rebellion - against the norm.

Those of us with tattoos, I have 13, see them as art.

Like your nephew - you just got to get to know us to understand we are not evil roughnecks.
WE are not going to poison your kids mind - in fact it's just the opposite:
we can OPEN their mind to new ideas -

i think it's terrible to judge people based on whether or not they're tattooed. it's awful that that had to happen to your husband. it's not fair but unfortunately the general public will always seem to find some reason to single people out and stereotype.

with the increased popularity of tattoos in the next 20-40 years i can see 2 things happening.

1. They will become more acceptable, more and more you see porfessionals with full sleeves, body suits...anything. Soon offices will be less uptight about it, workplaces wont care as much.

2. There will be a less painful, easier way to remove tattoos

dont judge people...it's dumb

I only judge people who have visible gang or white supremacy tattoos, but that isnt really judging because their tattoos tell you how they feel.

I feel more comfortable around people with tattoos than without, because these people know something about themselves, they arent afraid of physically expressing what they feel inside, and they can take a little pain! (:

Judging someone for their tattoos is like judging someone for thier race, or gender, and it is therefore stupid

it's what's on the inside of a person. i love tattoos, and i don't judge a person, until i get to know them. there are bad and good people with tattoos, and you never know which one they are until you get to know them.
