A typical Christian- Who made the world? My mom said God did it so, it must be true. I can't think of anything else.

A typical Atheist -Who made the world? My mom said God did it but where is the evidence? What if someone's lying?

A typical Christian-If I believe that god exist and he doesn't, I have nothing to lose but if I believe he doesn't exist and he does, I might go to hell so, I would just believe to stay on the safe side.

A typical Atheist-If I dont believe god exist, they claim I will go to hell but what if hell doesn't even exist? Are they trying to control me with fear? Now i'm even more suspicious. I'm a good person so if god does exist and is sending good people to hell, he's evil himself and can't be trusted.

A typical Christian-How could atheists look at this wonderful perfect world and dont think that god made it?

A typical Atheist-Christians must be delusional to actually believe that there's an invisible man in the sky causing hurricanes

That is not the way Christians think. I don't know about atheists. Modern Christianity encourages dissent by placing responsibility for Biblical interpretation square on the shoulders of the individual. The Christians who sound like your example are typically those who are not religious, don't care about religion, don't practice religion, but who feel enough of a cultural identity with their inheritted faith to attempt its defense.

Dear Black Atheist,

In terms of your question and answering i would say that it does not accurately represent what most Christians and Atheists think. (I'm a college/youth pastor and my brother is an Atheist) and i have a multitude of friends of all types of religions, races, etc.

I think first as you call yourself Black Atheist i find that your views on Christianity are inaccurate and have a negative twist to it. Obviously you think that people who believe in God are delusional, etc. Let me just say that there are many reasons people believe in God- some are solid, others are flimsy, and so you can't really make a generalization about why people follow God. God sorts out that truth- in the Bible there were people who genuinely followed God and those who did not (for whatever motives). Believers in God believe that God sorts that out in the end.

In terms of atheists they don't believe for many different reasons. Some have had very negative experiences with Christians or any other religious groups- others have decided to place complete faith in themselves and their own beliefs.

The point being that you can't place Atheists or Christians in a box and say they all believe this. You'll find that there are differences- and instead of feeding your own "stereotypes of each group," i say get to know them individually.

I mean if we did this on a racial scale that would be considered racism wouldn't it?

Anyhow that's my personal thoughts. Even when people tell me hey that guy's an atheist i get to know him and love to hear what he believes, why he believes what he believes, and i reciprocate the friendship by sharing the same things.

Hope that helps. Kindly,

Nickster

i don't know. It's not what I think.

A) My mother never claimed there was a God
B) My dad discovered you can explain the Bible any way you like.
C) As a kid I had books about evolution.
D) Though being royally screwed up as a child I did consider it might be all true.
E) However, I'm still an atheist untill proven wrong :)
F) Even if I wanted to believe..I can't, because I don't believe any of it...I don't know how you can ''just believe something to be on the safe side,'' it's impossible.

No, that's the way *you* think that Christians and atheists think. If you'd take off your anti-Christian blinders for a moment, you'd find that there are as many opinions and ideas about things as there are Christians who hold those ideas.

I usually don't say things like this, but it must be really boring to be you. You apparently can't or won't understand that Christians aren't little robots who are incapable of thinking on our own. You've stereotyped us and can't get beyond your own preconceived ideas to find out what we're really like.

I take that back. It's not boring to be you. . .it's really sad.

I am agree with you, I am JW it will sounds strange that I am agree with your statement, but it is true, Hell a place to torture people is a lie invented (Catholic Church) to control people but it is illogical to say that God is love and say that he create a place to torture people also the bible (The original Scriptures not the Catholics or protestant version) don´t said that, it is true that the lake of fire is mentioned but is simbolical and means "second death" or eternal destruction but not eternal suffering, for example if you take a piece of paper a throught it in fire the paper is destroyed it but it doesn´t stay the whole life the sheet of paper burning in the fire, the idea that God let you feel alive in another way of life fire and suffering is nasty and sadic, but the better think wass that Catholic Church now denied that position that they had for centuries, tha is why they don´t mention to much hell but our evangelicals friends use that to control weak minds people, obviosly you are not one of them, congratulations, it is shame that for that lie you don´t believe absolutly nothing of the bible, but don´t worry God will remove all false religion sooner you will see it.

two points:

a) atheists do enjoy the world, and judging by the comments more so than the typical guilt-ridden christian
b) christians do 'lose' something: they spent massive amounts of time on empty rituals and fretting about sky daddy and his guilt-trip cult.
