I have high blood pressure. I looked on www.calorieking.com
The fat content is very low. But the sodium content is outrageous. This can't be healthy????

Most fast food places and processed grocery foods are very high in salt. The sodium issue insane, I'd say the worst thing about American food. That why I buy stuff I can cook from scratch like eggs, uncooked meat (like a whole chicken), unseasoned rice, fresh vegetables, etc. And I make my own salad dressing (pre-prepared salad dressing= sodium nightmare). I also buy high-quality breads and check out the ingredients before buying. I don't buy frozen foods with added ingredients or pre-packaged meals. Just cook for yourself to maximize your health and limit sodium and unhealthy fat.

And just a headsup, I've heard that independant calorie labs have found the fast food places have up to three times the amount of sodium they have listed for the food item.

Too much sodium is not good for anyone, but it's worse for someone with high blood pressure. Eating healthy is not that hard, we just need to reprogram ourselves to do so. Stay away from any fast food. Subway is not bad, but pick a sandwich with a lower sodium content.

If you are worried about the sodium content, try eating a sandwich with out meat in it. I prefer Subway over all the other fast food places because at least there I can control what is going into that sub. You don't have to have mayo, or sauces, or salt added, and that is where all the hidden calories are...the extras!

They claim to be healthy, and I guess that they even have fruit sides in addition to their baked potato chips (which are still potato chips). However, to the best of my knowlege, they still offer white bread. Yeah, they have a couple of wheat breads (I just looked at the website), but unless I know it's WHOLE wheat, I'm just going to assume that it's wheat flavored white bread. Twice, I've e-mailed Subway and complained, but I got form letters back saying that they provide healthy food that fits the needs of the general public, or some dribble like that.

Yes, they offer a veggie sub, but it's barely a salad on white bread. Also, it has 560 mg of sodium, more than what I consume in a day. No thank you. I'll eat at Subway the same way I'll eat at almost any other fast "food" place-- If I'm on a road trip and I have neither a sandwhich nor sandwhich fixings.

It's WAY overrated. Too much sodium--too many carbs. You're better off to buy lunch meat that is less processed (less sodium) and make your own sandwiches. Plus, Quizno's is MUCH better and at least they don't tout being healthy--even though it is healthier than most places you can go for lunch.

yes Subway is very overrated. when compared to other fast food places it may be a much better option but when compared to home cooked foods it is less nutritious and more expensive to consume on a regular basis

i still think it's a healthier choice than many other fast food options.
