They have fallen victm to ignorance and arrogance.
Example: I used to work in a library. I had a hard time getting some noisy kids to quiet down. When the group was ready to leave I instantly saw why: their teacher was as bad as they were, or worse! She even came in wearing JEANS and very open sandals with much of her bare feet hanging out. This during a school day!
The children don't know better because their parents and adults around them don't know and/or don't care.
Then there are the arrogant ones. Example: someone does yu an injury. Nowadays, instead of apologizing they actually have the nerve to get angry! As if they were the injured party!
I too am fed up with all the foul people - but I certainly will never stoop to their level.

Too many people are just "too busy" to care;they fail to realize that simple good manners are just small, inconsequential sacrifices made in order to make life move on a little more smoothly,a little more pleasantly. My parents and my schools taught me good manners;today's parents just don't know how to parent.Passing on good values, good morals, and good manners is all a part of parenting, but today's parents sadly think nothing of running over anyone who crosses their paths to rush heedlessly to where ever it is there going, slamming the door in the face of the hapless person behind them.
Businesses are beginning to realize that good manners are very important; I recently watched a segment on one of the news broadcasts about employees being sent to Etiquette classes because their manners were so appalling!

It seems that Good Manners not labeled as "cool" anymore. Good manners unfortunately are being associated with geekiness, and weakness.
This holds true especially online, where you might get away with typing anything without having to pay the price. Although I might be blunt sometimes, I never type anything I wouldn't say to a person face to face as if I know him in person.

Good manners do not come to us naturally. We have to learn them from our parents or school teachers. If they fail us then we have no way to learn. A good education that encourages us to read will show us what are 'good manners'. Was it Charles Dickens who wrote "Manners mayketh the man" ? but who reads books nowadays.
From all this I think that the lack of good manners is mainly due to the lack of good education.

I think good manners now are no less prevalent than they were in previous decades or centuries. Human beings have always slaughtered each other. In modern times we just do it more proficiently. I think Good manners generally are expressed as a selfish act (you think you might get something out of the situation) or out of fear or obligation (dire consequences may result if you don't express them) The kind of ultra tribalism expressed in the modern word creates a mood of fear and suspicion precluding an exercise of civilised behaviour.

Our society has watched the downgrading of good manners. Everything seems to be okay, and until we realize that without good manners, our country becomes corrupt we will not go back there. The only way we can gain good manners back is to have them within ourselves and teach them whereever we are, and to our children.
