"get a translation of the Quran" You are telling us to get a copy of the Quran in anything but the original Arabic. Then when we point out the loads of contradictions and violent doctrines will you then change your claims to say it can only read and truly understood in Arabic. A language you yourself probably do not speak.

Why do we study the people and not their theology. Two reasons. First, that's how it works the first observation the we make is the actions of the people that follow the teachings. Which in your case is hateful, violent, and socially regressive. The second reason is because Islamic leaders are completely closed to textual criticism (examining the Quaran).

Why do we study the people. Safety when you live near venomous snakes you want to know about them. Where Islam reigns freedom is gone. Where Islam is violence is common.

I actually owned a Quran, read it through, and studied Islam long before the terrorist attacks of 5.5 years ago, along with the works of several Islamic scholars over the centuries.

I do agree that most Americans don't know anything about the religion, and they judge it based on the actions of murderous extremists. I would also say that a majority of people who have tried to learn a bit have only understood fragments, mostly from studying the scholars who wrote what they wanted to believe about Islam when they started out anyway.

Why is it this way? For one, most people don't *have* to know anything about it, and you always focus on the skills you do need to know, such as information regarding your career. Two, it's hard to apply the knowledge; for most people, it will not affect their lives knowing or not knowing, so when you ask yourself, "Why am I studying this?" most people expect to find little or no motivation to continue.

I'm sorry, but the example of islam we're shown is a murderous people. Why would I want to study a religion that causes its people to not only kill us, but to kill each other with the voracity islam does? I don't want to learn about a religion that puts no value on human life, that thinks its okay to bomb a mosque with innocent children in it. Yes, there are bad in all religions, the difference is with christianity, we at least try to stop our crazies, muslims just talk about how sad it is, but don't do a thing to stop it. I know there are good muslims, but like I said, they're not trying to stop mass murder of their own people, and to watch evil and do nothing to stop it makes everyone just as guilty. I don't want to learn a religion that perpetuates this kind of hate and lack of respect for human life. Just not interested.
