Nobody debates he`s existed. Jews and Muslim recognize he existed. There are physical proof of his existence. The only debate here is that Christians believe he is the Son of God and the Jews and the Muslims believe he is a prophet.

Jesus Christ is THE focal point of all history.
No other single individual has ever impacted the lives of humanity the way He has.

But mainly it comes to this;
He said He is God.
Those with wisdom believe Him.
Those without will remain so until they yield to Him.
And one day they WILL yield to Him, either in this life,
or when they stand before Him in judgment in the next.

Debate would probably end if folks would understand this:

There is a God and you're not Him.

Because Christianity carries a strong missionary message, there are:

1 - A lot of Christians in the world (missionary message coupled with 2000 years of work). If they're going to debate something, it'll be about their religion, not somebody else's.

2 - A lot of Christians still working to convert others to their belief. If you're going to be debating with anybody, are you going to go out and find somebody who isn't bothering you to start an argument, or are you going to deal with the set of people who seem to bombard you with "Convert or Burn in Hell!" messages on a near-daily basis?

Well, it is rediculous to say that He did not exist. However, the debate comes because He is the only Way to the Father. People need to debate this important fact.

Because Jesus Christ IS Lord.

The reason people debate Jesus so much is because they fear him so much. The name of Jesus is powerful when mentioned in conversion it invokes powerful emotions and stay with the listeners for awhile.

Many people violently oppose Jesus because they only want something else and don't want to believe the truth.

Thru history it is proven he did exist, I think it is so debated because mankind can't really agree on anything. It is a personal walk and some try to do everybodys walk but their own.

why do people deny the existence of buddha or zeus? why are there records of jesus-like figures in egyptian hieroglyphics thousands of years before he existed? there is no real proof either way. and frankly it is possible he was a real man whose story just got embellished obver the years and its possible he existed long before the chritsian jesus did and was adopted by other religions.

Accountability.

The need to disprove God comes from the reality that if those who believe are right, those who don't will spend eternity without God as He says.

Not jesus , who's a cheap imitation of older gods, but christianity, which is harmful to believers and others.

Theists, especially christians, try to control and restrict us based on their views. If all christians stop crusading against science, culture, art, sex and sexuality, religious freedom and such, and stop telling everybody else they're going to be tortured throughout eternity unless they join you, I assure you that you won't encounter nearly as much hostility.

Just reading the replies so far demonstrates my point.
