The ritual sacrifice of the first born son (a common Mediterranean theme), the eating of his flesh and the drinking of his blood (also common themes, especially among cannibalistic tribes like the Aztecs and Incas).

Whether symbolic or not, the basic logic of the story is stating that these barbaric people had it right.

Funny how you do not allow for personal emails...
Father G...
Your quote:
"No where in the Old Testament does it suggest that you can grab any verse out of its original context and call it a prophecy." End quote
Allow me to shed some much needed light...
The word Prophet means=to prophecy
Wikipedia, Prophecy is the prediction of future events or the speaking of divine words (divine Revelation) through chosen human messengers (prophets)
The Torah or Old Testament is all about the coming Messiah, the Savior of the Jews but God promised a Savior of larger proportions! He sent a Savior of the Jews and Gentiles. A Savior of the utter most, to the very soul to ends of the earth for the salvation of all of mankind.
It is the New Covenant and it applies for all times...
God Bless you in Jesus Christ!

Its a sacrifice for us, because in God's sight we are by nature barbaric. He would probably look at an unsaved sinner rather like we might regard Stalin or Hitler. That is because He is absolutely pure.

The blood symbolises life given in place of our own to satisfy eternal justice.

The body indicates the fact that we believers partake of Christ's nature after the spiritual regeneration that happens when we believed.

Hence you must "drink his blood" and "eat his body" just means you can't have eternal life without His sacrifice.

The central beliefs of Jesus, are the most gracefilled and civilized of all, then and now. The barbarians of today, preach the glory of that very human sacrifice, and can't even hear the words they speak.

Some pray for the end of the world, and the death of millions. But, they don't hear the words they speak. That, is a mystery.

The central teachings of traditional Christianity are that Jesus is the Son of God, the second person of the Trinity of God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; that his life on earth, his crucifixion, resurrection, and ascension into heaven are proof of God's love for humanity and God's forgiveness of human sins; and that by faith in Jesus one may attain salvation and eternal life.

So, no, they are not barbaric.

I feel sorry for you. Nope they didnt' have it right. They were trying to do it in themselves. Only God can save man and He did it through sending His Son to be the Savoir of the world. Christ was both human and man. Those sacrificing infants are only sacrificing man.

God was rejected when people turned to idolatry. God desires to have fellowship with man even though they rejected HIm. Man rejected Jesus and still do today by not seeing Him as Lord and Savior just like they did when they killed HIm on the cross.

You obviously do not have a good understanding of the christian faith, bible, or history. Go to church hon they will explain it in full. Christianity is based on love and forgiveness for all God's people.
And where have you heard of God telling people to sacrifice their 1st born son. I think you need to go back and reread that Bible story. That was not Gods command.

That there has to be a sacrifice--a blood sacrifice--certainly is.

Below certainly sound strange to us today. All are excerpts from the old treatment, which relate more to Judaism than Christianity.

I have no idea where you figure all this... But the central ideas of Christianity, it's all based on the fact that God loves us so much He sent His only Son to die for us, so we wouldn't have to. Now we get to spend eternity with Him and His Son in Heaven, hallelujah!!! You read some misinformation.. Try the Bible.

Yeah I really don't know why God couldn't have just sent down a load of angels or something to absolve the worlds sin. Would have been much more impressive and people would have really believed it.

For being omniscient he has some pretty crazy ideas.

I'm a heathen -- you can't tell, can you?
