And the Christian religion is based on human sacrifice, how can these people possibly look down on the ancient religions as barbaric?

Does all of that bloodshed really make you pure?

Faith S, that is the most disturbing thing I have heard anyone say in a long time.

I could have opted out of High School, challeneged the courses and graduated when I was 7, but I chose not to.

See, you can add, "I meant to do that" to anything.

Yes it does. The Christian religion is based on one human sacrifice, Jesus. The founder of the religion died for His people. That sounds noble to me, not barbaric.

You are beginning with a false premise therefore your logic is faulty.

Judaism and by extension Christianity is not BASED on animal and human sacrifice.

Redemption of sin was in the OT by animal blood sacrifice. Christianity did away with that. The shedding of Christ’s blood atoned for the sins of all mankind and it was not "human sacrifice" as defined in barbaric "ancient" (read extinct) religions.

Christ's blood does not make one "pure" it cleanses the spirit and makes it acceptable to God.

I believe that I saw in one of your other questions or answers that you are a "former Christian", if that is the case then you know what I say is true while what you stated is false. What then are the reasons for your attempts to denigrate Christians and Christianity?

I see two possibilities:
(1) You did not grow sufficiently in your Christian walk; or
(2) You never were a Christian and use that as a ruse to lend credence to your atheism.

God wanted mankind to know how precious Life was after all He created it ALL!!! The wage of sin is Death! First we are born Spiritually Dead & Physically Alive, but Dying! Only A.&E. didn't face Either Death in this world until they sinned! Then Original Sin was placed in the genetic make-up of A. and it began to deteriorate the Human Body when they were kicked out of the Garden. God institued Animal Sacrifice to remind his people of the Wages of Sin being Death and that His plan to redeem mankind would bring His Son Jesus Christ to the cross as a Final Perfect Sacrifice for ALL Mankind!!! Only Christ could pay the Price once & for ALL for ALL of Mankinds Sins Past, Present & Future!!!To answer Ur question as to how Christians can look down on others, I suggest U answer that one Urself as U seem to have Judged them already & are now trying to "Stir the Stink"??? From what text do you base the premise of Christianity being based on human sacrifice?

The animals that were slain in Judaism were killed by the hand of man.

Jesus proclaimed that "no man takes my life,I lay it down of my own free will".....this was an act of self sacrifice...He could have opted out of the death on the cross by calling down a legion of angels.

The practice of animal sacrifice was not initiated by God. It was initiated by Noah, thankful to God after he left the ark. Abraham continued it as a show of thanksgiving. When man again began to sin to the point of being ridiculous, God, (having promised Noah He would never again destroy man), made it a requirement in the law to substitute an animal for man, because death was the penalty for sin. Jesus was sacrificed by God for the same reason. To pay the penalty for man's sins. "All of that bloodshed" you're talking about is Jesus' blood shed for all mankind. His blood makes us pure. Not the rest.

Let me get this strait, Issac was willing to sacrifice himself, although his father had the knife in his hand. And this doesn't count as a human sacrifice, because the son was willing?

God so loved the world, the He gave his only begotten son...I guess I heard it backwards: Jesus so loved the world, that he gave his own life for his father....

I've heard many Christians compare Issac, to Jesus.

My answer is a question is, how does it feel, when you see innocents suffer? I'm glad we don't need another Christ.

The Hebrew religion included animal sacrifice but was not based on it. It was based on the idea that there is one God. And that God is involved in the life of all creation.

The Jews no longer sacrifice animals. They did when their religion was ANCIENT.

Christianity is based on the sacrifice of the God/man Jesus not on running around sacrificing people willy nilly.

And carnivores continue to sacrifice animals on a daily basis. What's new? Are they barbarians, too?

I am a vegetarian.

Anyway. We eat about a billion poor little chickens every day I believe; a big undertaking for a little fellow. The animals sacrificed by the Hebrews, were eaten by the Levites, who had no inheritance (no farm), as they were all priests. They had to eat. So they killed two birds with one stone so to speak.
And, you're right, it didn't make us pure, and God had to send his son to redeem us and die for our sins. We wasn't making it on our own....at least no very many of us.

Just to make sure you know, Christianity is not based on human sacrifice....where did you get that idea? If it was from the story of Abraham, that doesn't count. We should love God more than anything, and if God asks you to sacrifice your son for him, you shouldn't have a problem doing it because you love God more than your son.

EDIT:

What's so disturbing about it? As far as i know, God isn't asking people to sacrifice their kids nowadays, but if he would, don't you think any Christian who loved God would obey? God was just testing Abraham, so that doesn't really count as human sacrifice.
