Year's ago Jehovah's Witnesses did not consider themselves Christians. That seems to have changed lately... What are they teaching today about salvation and about who Jesus is?

Dear Blessed,

I do remember from childhood when my jw mother was nearly ready to wash my mouth with soap for asking her if jws were Christians. I learned at about the age of 10 that "Christian" meant evil people to her.

Now just look at all the Watchtower Witness people posting on YA and boasting that they are Christians.

What they say about themselves does not really have any relevance whatsoever in the matter. It is what the Creator says about them that matters.

Look at Deuteronomy 18:20-22 and you will plainly see that God's Word calls them FALSE Prophets!!! They have predicted various specific dates for Armageddon in their brief time on earth yet each of those dates came and went without the prophesied event.

Since they are indeed FALSE prophets what they say on other biblical matters should not be listened to.

For His glory,
JOYfilled

Jehovah's Witnesses are the best that the world has to offer, at least they know the bible is Jehovah's witness and Jesus is the greatest witness of all. They could be 60 percent wrong and be 100 percent right, if there is 1000 religions in the world, then they are made up of all those religions that were wrong and they are used to being wrong all the way, now is time for learning and from the top down it takes a long time. Getting the bible right is the most difficult thing in the world the Promised Land heirs is proof of that. Getting people to do right is the most difficult thing. If any person picks up the bible and starts searching for the truth, it is not long before there is a choice to be made, either believe the religion one is in, or study the bible as they are not the same thing. What does Jesus need at his second coming? He needs people to know what it is all about, that is what the bible is for. Heaven and hell is not the truth. The coming kingdom is, and Jesus will be king Rev.3:12; coming down out of heaven from God, down to where the earthly people for the new earth are. People that can study, follow orders, stay organized and work together for the good of every one. People like Moses that can tolerate those that need the truth or the rest of the truth. Respect for the word of God can stop complaining and get results.

The question is about whether witnesses themselves have always considered themselves Christians. In that context, they always have.

They consider all Christians other than themselves to be "false" Christians. How far back do you have to go to find the origin of that teaching? The answer is probably in one of the links already posted.

The blatant difference in their teaching about the ransom of Christ is that they claim it directly benefits ONLY the 144,000 anointed "bride class," the "remnant" of which form their leadership. Separating oneself from Jehovah's witnesses, according to them, means that the "great crowd" -- the majority of witnesses -- would lose the "benefit of the ransom" as it will be "administered" by the "bride class." That is a subtle point that has emerged clearly in the past several years, which many JWs read right over and miss.

Stuff like that will probably soon be relegated to the witness-only editions of the Watchtower that they are going to start printing. Hmmm.... What else do they have to hide? What else can't take close scrutiny?

Why not try our website for an accurate discription.
www.Watchtower.org/ Facts instead of opinions.
Sample:
What Do They Believe?

JEHOVAH’S WITNESSES believe in Almighty God, Jehovah, Creator of the heavens and the earth. The very existence of the intricately designed wonders in the universe surrounding us reasonably argues that a supremely intelligent and powerful Creator produced it all. Just as the works of men and women reflect their qualities, so do those of Jehovah God. The Bible tells us that “his invisible qualities are clearly seen from the world’s creation onward, because they are perceived by the things made.” Also, without voice or words, “the heavens are declaring the glory of God.”—Romans 1:20; Psalm 19:1-4.

People do not mold clay pots or make television sets and computers without a purpose. The earth and its creations of plant and animal life are far more marvelous. The structure of the human body with its trillions of cells is beyond our understanding—even the brain with which we think is incomprehensibly wonderful! If men have a purpose in bringing forth their comparatively insignificant inventions, surely Jehovah God had a purpose in his awesome creations! Proverbs 16:4 says that he does: “Everything Jehovah has made for his purpose.”

Jehovah made the earth for a purpose, as he stated to the first human pair: “Be fruitful and become many and fill the earth . . . , have in subjection the fish of the sea and the flying creatures of the heavens and every living creature that is moving upon the earth.” (Genesis 1:28) Because they became disobedient, this couple failed to fill the earth with righteous families who would lovingly care for the earth and its plants and animals. But their failure does not make Jehovah’s purpose fail. Thousands of years later, it was written: “God, the Former of the earth . . . , did not create it simply for nothing.” He “formed it even to be inhabited.” It is not to be destroyed, but “the earth endures for ever.” (Isaiah 45:18; Ecclesiastes 1:4, The New English Bible) Jehovah’s purpose for the earth will be realized: “My own counsel will stand, and everything that is my delight I shall do.”—Isaiah 46:10.

Hence, Jehovah’s Witnesses believe that the earth will remain forever and that all people, living and dead, who will fit in with Jehovah’s purpose for a beautified, inhabited earth may live on it forever. All mankind inherited imperfection from Adam and Eve and, hence, are sinners. (Romans 5:12) The Bible tells us: “The wages sin pays is death.” “The living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all.” “The soul that is sinning—it itself will die.” (Romans 6:23; Ecclesiastes 9:5; Ezekiel 18:4, 20) Then how can they live again to share in the earthly blessings? Only through the ransom sacrifice of Christ Jesus, for he said: “I am the resurrection and the life. He that exercises faith in me, even though he dies, will come to life.” “All those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out.”—John 5:28, 29; 11:25; Matthew 20:28.

How will this come about? It is explained in “the good news of the kingdom,” which Jesus started to proclaim while on earth. (Matthew 4:17-23) But today Jehovah’s Witnesses are preaching the good news in a very special way.

What's up with talking about LDS beliefs when the question was about Jehovah's Witnesses? I don't have an answer to the question, by the way, wish I did. Just confused at the non-answer someone else gave.

They have always considered themselves Christian, but the meaning of being "Christian has changed over time, just like the meaning of "dating." Dating use to mean going out with someone with the intent to find a life companion, but now it means you are sleeping with someone you're going out with. It also can mean you charge for it.

These days there is not shame in calling yourself a Christian, even when your life is totally the opposite. A child molester can call themselves Christian, because they believe that as long as they repent their sins before they die, everything will be alright. The same goes for gang bangers who kill.

Calling yourself Christian no longer carries with it a badge of honor of living fully in the light of Christ, and Atheists know and able play on it.

JWs never denied they were Christian, but striving to live fully in the light of Christ, they just don't want to be associated with those for whom the term has no greater importance than saying you're a human. Anyone can be human, but it does not mean they have an oz of humanity in them.

Jehovah's Witnesses have always considered themselves Christians, but do not consider themselves part of "Christendom" (which they define as "false Christianity").

Jehovah's Witnesses teach that no salvation occurs without Christ, that accepting Christ's sacrifice is a requirement for true worship, that every prayer must acknowledge Christ, that Christ is the King of God's Kingdom, that Christ is the head of the Christian congregation, that Christ is immortal and above every creature, even that Christ was the 'master worker' in creating the universe!

Jehovah's Witnesses love and respect and honor Christ. However, Jehovah's Witnesses believe that the Scriptures quite plainly demonstrate that Jesus and the Almighty are separate distinct persons, and the Almighty created Jesus as His firstborn son.

(Colossians 1:15) the firstborn of all creation

(Mark 10:18) Jesus said to him: 'Why do you call me good? Nobody is good, except one, God.

(Revelation 3:14) the Amen says, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation by God

(Philippians 2:5-6) Christ Jesus, who, although he was existing in God's form, gave no consideration to a seizure, namely, that he should be equal to God

(John 8:42) Neither have I come of my own initiative at all, but that One sent me forth

(John 12:49) I have not spoken out of my own impulse, but the Father himself who sent me has given me a commandment as to what to tell and what to speak

(John 14:28) I am going my way to the Father, because the Father is greater than I am

(1 Corinthians 15:28) But when all things will have been subjected to him, then the Son himself will also subject himself to the One who subjected all things to him

(Matthew 20:23) this sitting down at my right hand and at my left is not mine to give, but it belongs to those for whom it has been prepared by my Father

(1 Corinthians 11:3) I want you to know that the head of every man is the Christ; ...in turn the head of the Christ is God

(John 20:17) I am ascending to my Father and your Father and to my God and your God.

(Deuteronomy 6:4) Jehovah our God is one Jehovah

(1 Corinthians 8:4-6) There is no God but one. For even though there are those who are called "gods," whether in heaven or on earth, just as there are many "gods" and many "lords," there is actually to us one God the Father, out of whom all things are, and we for him

Thanks again for an opportunity to share what the bible actually says about the distinct persons of Jesus Christ the Son and Jehovah God the Father!

How can someone be saved:
"This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you, the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ." -- John 17:3

About Jesus:
"He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation." -- Colossians 1:15
