would stop disliking Christians if we weren't so damn judgemental all the time about EVERYTHING. My faith is supposed to be kind & caring but yet they tell anyone who has a different opinion that they're wrong. I never see Jews on here judging people & although I don't know much about Muslims, I don't see them on here telling people that if they don't believe in Allah, we'll burn. Why are they like that & would it help other religions to think more of us if we just shut up?

I don't dislike Christians because they are Christians, I just don't like some of the Christians on R&S (I also don't like some of the atheists, Muslims, Pagans etc).

But you have a point. I can't help thinking some of them are deliberately provocative so they can claim they've been "hated in the name of Jesus."

And yes again, there are people of all stripes who are deliberately provocative for all sorts of reasons.

That would be a good start. I was raise Methodist. Pretty mild form of Christianity. I am now a Pantheist and get very offened by the extreme Christians who want to scream and holler that science lies, Global Warming is made up, Evolution is a conspiracy...ect. But I also realize that it is the fundies & evangalists that are creating a bad attitude toward all different sects of the religion. The Ted Haggarts & Fred Phelps are not the mainstream Christians in America, they are just two of ones with the biggest mouths. So I do believe you are on the right track. You can either sit there and allow them to develope a bad reputation for all Christians...or as a fellow Christian, you can tell them to sit down and shut up because they look like fools!

I think some Christians do come across as overbearing.

I'll give an example. You'll get people posting questions regarding Wicca, and I enjoy sitting around and waiting for the first hellfire evangelist to post something about how Wicca is evil.

I suppose you could get away with saying something like that if the question was perhaps "Is Wicca okay to practice?", but usually the questions aren't like this. (In one case, the person was asking for a good book to read regarding Wicca. That didn't stop the hellfire preachers from doing their thing, though.)

Most atheists I know don't dislike Christianity.

They dislike a certain few Christians and a few organisations that are extremely judgemental and intruding.

I mean, most of my best friends are Christian. In normal peoples lives, religion only affects their surroundings on Sundays. The rest of the time they are normal people.

That's why atheists don't hate Hindus and Buddhists. We're not "better" people just there is no annoying minority pushing our beliefs on everyone.

Christians like you are awesome, normal people. Christians like Knight are a pestilence. THankfully, they are a vast minority =)

I'm a gay, Catholic guy.

Catholic because I was baptized when I was too young to know or understand anything about religion. Gay because I was born gay.

I do not select my friends based on anything other than mutual respect and trust.

Now having stated that I'm gay, can you guess how many Christian's would actually "be" a friend of mine or even like me?

Can you imagine what my black, Muslim friend would say if I told her "I don't hate you, I just hate who you are".

Anyway, I'm not looking for friends on YA. Especially in R/S .

I do not and have never judged any person for their religion. It is only their actions that I judge. If you think that by contradicting their beliefs I judge them then look closer at what I write.

I respect and love those of any religion who have compassion and love. I will always fight for the right to live without the threats of mythology.

How interesting that there are many religions but only one science

How can you like atheists when your holy book is filled with hate speech?

"The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good."

So I guess when atheist Warren Buffett gives 37 Billion dollars to charity, your book still tells christians he's a corrupt fool who does no good. When an atheist scientist comes up with a cure for a disease, your book still tells christians he's a corrupt fool who does no good.

Your religion is incompatibly with tolerance.

It looks like everyone else has gone full steam ahead to answer your question, so I'll go with the first thing I thought of when I saw it....

"Does it take to change a lightbulb?".

No, I'm sorry, I don't know the punch line. It's probably something terribly incisive and witty.

Oh, there are people on both sides who enjoy the sport of baiting each other.

Personally I find it childish and unproductive ... it builds wall rather than bridges ... but building walls is just easier and more comforting for many people. Finding common ground takes work ... and most people are lazy.

There will always be religious arguments. You are correct, not every christian/muslim/jew/atheist/ect. is a facist. It is just the mean people that gave their people the bad reputation.
