I am very alramed @ what could be happening to our food supplies. Its seems that less than 2% of all imported food is inspected, and held to the same high standards of American meats, grains, and produce. Case in point... "Melomine" (sp?)
Your pet foods got it from the wheat gluten and rice's imported from China to make pet food products. Unfortunately, a lot of hogs were fed that too. Its gotten into our food supply. Why should we need to import food? And paying farmers in the USA to not work their farms is ridiculous. We dont know that produce from other countries isnt watered by sewage.
It just seems to me that we would be the world's "bread basket" if we werent tampering with our foods. It also is Hell on our economy.
We get a cheaper Catfish from China called the "Basa Fish". Again... less than 2% of imported food is inspected. Woudnt you rather invest in your fellow American, and buy Mississippi pond raised Catfish. It may cost more, but you know where its been

I am all for you,l but most people want savings and their money to go around the budget. not to run out near the end of the month. I hate the word conspiracy, but they do exist. And its sort of like we are headed toward a unified world governing body. I personally am against that. Then you factor in our unions, getting us high wages. All the restrictions laid on businesses to clean up the environment etc. That costs money. Other countries do not have all this they must pay for. China has child laborers. no law against. And on and on and on. So if the farmers cannot sell their product for MORE than it cost them to grow. they opt for Govt pay.And then of course, govt. subsidaries become like welfare, 2nd & 3rd generations raised on it. Sort if a habit. And yet the big pust to keep ILLEGIAL alians is because they do somuch farm work. So you lmust break down what type of farmers are on the dole and which are hiring some illegials. Workers with green cards exempt. And lots of the illegials are not from Mexico. They do not get much press, jColumbis hati, jamiaca all those poor countries want to come up her. Some of them i have never heard of. Its a hugh question/ Wish i had a solution.

yeah and you aklso know that sometime in the future there will be a food shortage in our lifetime. It will be awesome when we screwed up all our farmland by building parks and stuff. Then we become dependent on bringing food from other countries who will also be feeling from the food shortage. I'm sure they will sell it to us. My understanding is with the population growth and all etc...we will have a food shortage in about 30-40 years but you can check on that. And no ...even if there is no food shortage...why pay farmers not to work? The hell with that. What we could do is lower the amount of food we import.

The US does not pay farmers not to grow crops.

We do import a lot of food. Some products are cheaper to grow elsewhere. If you don't like it, vote with your wallet and buy American.

This has to do with trade agreements with foreign countries. The last several administrations have made it much cheaper for our companies to buy overseas and to manufacture overseas than in our country, much to the detriment of our own people. It's not just Republicans, it's not just Democrats. It's politicians. All of them.
