It says (1) arise (2) be baptized (3) wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord. The Bible says "call on the name of the Lord and you will be saved. Your question should read "why would it take anything MORE than that today" I think, dont you? Just asking. The rest of the Bible will show you that baptism is not salvation, ask the thief on the cross, he was never baptized, only asked Jesus to remember him.

Hey pretty Good concerns, but being baptized doesnt save you. baptism is an outward expression of and inward change. The bible tells us that God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life. thats in 1 john 3 verse 16. Romans 10 and verse 9 and 10 tells the process of salvation as well. Accepting Jesus completed work saves us. Baptism shows the world that you have decided to follow Christ. Baptism is an outward expression of an inward change. That change comes from the fact that you have accepted Christ as payment for your sin. Baptism does not save you. It represents the death of Jesus- (going under the water) and His resurrection (coming back out of the water). It is the calling on the name of the Lord through admitting you are a sinner, and accept Christ as the only way to salvation. Baptism is a sign that you are saved, not how you get saved.

What about someone who comes to faith in a convalescent home, and can't be baptized? What about the thief on the cross, who was promised Paradise, but couldn't get baptized?
While I agree that Baptism is the first step of obedience in a Christian's life, it is not the end all, be all for salvation.

I was baptised by pouring as a baby in the Roman Catholic church for the forgiveness of sins. My conversion to Gnostic Christianity by my spontaneous baptism of the Holy Spirit washed away my sins, sanctified me and my God gave me absolution. I also fell on my face and praised God and Jesus ceaselessly. Now I ask to be rebuked when/if I sin so that I may learn better. That's all I ask God to do for me, and He does. He's great!

You think it is a magic pill you can swallow and you are saved. The bible is made up of books, not one quote! Accept Jesus into your heart, read the bible, especially the new testament, and open yourself to his message. God bless you.

If I killed someone, did my time and said I was sorry, and was baptized, then went out and killed again--I would not be forgiven.
You have to walk the walk, not just talk the talk.

Read the rest of the chapter... you will then understand why baptism is only a symbol and can't actually remove your sins
