Pride is what got Satan kicked out of heaven. Pride I believe is the basis for most sin- if we want something, we go for it, if it will get us notoriety, if we think we are better than someone else- if we think we can live life without God. Pride puts us ahead of God, and that is what sin is.

Not as simple of an answer as everyone thinks. Pride is a sin when you forget who it was that gave you the reason for being proud. Proud of your work? Remember that God blessed you with the brains and hands to perform that work. Proud of what you own? Remember that God blessed you with the ability to gather all those things. The point is, always remember where what you are proud of came from.

There are different types of pride. There is pride manifested through a parent feeling pride of their son or daughter that they accomplished something and then there is pride manifested through someone boasting about themselves over something they did or just how they view themselves.
The latter manifestation of pride is mentioned in Proverbs 16:18 - "Pride is before a crash, and a haughty spirit before stumbling."

Hello the bible tells us in proverbs that pride comes before a fall, look at this way we must take pride in what we do, how we live and so on but being selfish and mean and rude is not of God and the bible tells us that whatever is not of God is sin. So it is a two-sided coin.

It's what got satan kicked out of heaven. He thought he could do a better job than God. Yea, I think it is.
Pride comes in many forms with many different problems to follow.
Just two here:
Thinking you are better than someone else. Because of this, there is slavery, genocide, terrorism, etc.
Thinking you are right all of the time. Pride refuses to let you admit you could be wrong.
Because of this, there are many broken relationships- marital, family, work, friends, etc.
Being proud of yourself at a job well-done is not a sin. It's when its obsessed upon that it becomes a sin.

If you have too much pride, then you are unable to see your faults, and you begin to lift yourself up above other people.
The saying 'pride goes before the fall' means that pretty much every great person who had a downfall, whether they were good or bad in nature, were too full of themselves to recognize the signsof trouble ahead.

Pride is the root of all sin.
Pride makes you think you know better than God.
Pride says "I must have this or that job/thing/person at all costs."
Pride is all about "me," instead of others.

The first thing you need to do (and it takes a lot of work) is to come to a conclusion FOR YOURSELF about:
WHAT IS SIN?
Don't just stick with dogma: Sin is (whatever) because they (whoever "they" may be) told me so!
