I was raised Catholic, and I've never heard that.
However, there is a cultural standard to dating, and such an age division is considered a little odd. (I think it's considered more acceptable when both people are older, but at very young ages, it seems a little out of place.)

I don't think it really matters. I think that if you are really young, you should not go too much older, but then again, a lot of younger people are very mature. My brother and his wife are 8 years apart, and you would never know it. They are perfect for each other in every way.

Though it doesn't give their respective ages in the bible, traditionally Joseph was believed to be somewhat older than Mary and if it was ok for them.....
However, it IS very wrong to end a sentence with a bunch of question marks.
