LAst night I ask if this was fact or myth:Pit bulls are unpredictable; they can turn on anyone, even their owner, at any time.

Pit bulls are just as predictable as any other dog. Most people who say that a dog is "unpredictable" simply don't understand dogs. They believe the stories of people who were "just petting the dog, and suddenly it went crazy and bit me!" In the majority of these cases, the victim simply doesn't understand or has missed canine warning signs. Only a handful of dogs are really "crazy" and unpredictable. Many of these dogs have never had training of any kind. Some of these dogs have mental disorders that cause their unpredictable behavior. But this sort of behavior is not usually seen in pit bulldogs. In fact, the canine disorder known as "Rage Syndrome", where a dog attacks a person suddenly and without warning, is documented primarily in cocker spaniels and retrievers - very common family dogs.

1) Neutered dogs will live longer, healthier lives than those who are not neutered.- Fact. Believe it or not. 2) Spayed b*tches will never get breast cancer. Myth, though it does help. 3) Neutering dogs will help stop any type of aggression. Myth, even though it helps in some cases and especially before they hit puberty. (at 6 months) 4) There are 42 teeth in a dog's mouth. Fact 5) Dogs are NOT colorblind. - I dont know about this one. 6) B*tches do not yearn to reproduce & have a family like humans do. Myth- every animal has the urge and instinct to reproduce 7) Mixed breed dogs are healthier than Purebreds.- Fact. 8) Show dogs are unhealthy, inbred mutants. Fact, in some lines 9) All dogs, regardless of breed, are direct descendants of wolves and technically of the same species. I have heard that sometimes pits are bred for aggression and they can turn on you, but I have never seen this. Usually it's background, although I have a rescue pit and a rescue cat. Both were horribly abused to the point they're ugly with scars. They turned into best buds. I called them Calvin (cat) and Hobbs (dog), and they have never been vicious with anyone. Calvin and Hobbs were "bait" animals and have been attacked by dogs to the point that I don't know how they survived. I have had them for 4 1/2 years, so I don't think they'll turn on me now. I have to walk Hobbs on a heavy harness and leash, not because he's mean, but because the rest of the world is afraid of him. But he is the best dog I have ever owned. I live in the country, so we don't have pit bull laws here. I was always afraid of pits, but I have really changed my mind. I can't tell you how much I love these two. And yes, I have read some statistics from my own vet's office (they were posted on the wall; I didn't make this up) that the most common unprovoked bite comes from the Golden Retriever. Go figure. Me - scared to death of pits, have fallen in love with one.

the fact is that many people (especially in the south) train their pitbulls to be agressive towards people and those dogs inevitably get out and attack people, usually children and mailmen. it's not the dogs fault, it's the owners but unfortunately there are not enough laws in place to punish the people who do this to animals.
this happens in my own town atleast 5 times a year and the dogs are always put down.

Neither, Any dog can bite someone. People just dont know how to teach them not to and properly. People act like pit bulls are the shiznet, but they are not. The reason people think this is bc they are used for fighting alot, and some think its cool. Like people think drugs, ciggaretts, and drinking is cool, well so is dog fighting. Thats why you mostly see the "lower" class people with them, and those are usually the ones who think drinking and doing drugs is okay, Its just poperganda. Like for instance, I know this stupid kid who is a HUGE pot head, and he said that his pit bull could kill my Doberman. I told him to F*uck off, and if he did he was going to kiddie jail. Well he did anyway when I didnt know about it, and My dobie bit into the vein in his neck, just defending himself and the poor thing died, and I couldnt get outside in time bc I have 2 acres, and I was running to the front when I heard the fighting. Well I called the police and they charged him and his parents for animal abuse, not being on a leash, and being on private property when there is a "beware of doberman" and "private property" sign. I felt really bad, BUT I IN NO WAY WANTED IT TO HAPPEN. And bc he thought he was so cool, he lost his dog. And Im always telling people what their real names are, but they dont like to listen, either american staffordshire terriers, or american bull terriers. But they dont like it bc it dosent sound cool enough. People dont understand thet they were primarily bred for hunting rats, thats why they are in the 'terrier' class. Also they dont understand that these are not really good gaurd dogs, bc they are not bred for that, like dobermans. Thats why they are in thw 'Working' class. And these people who think pit bulls are great gaurd dogs, dont bother to train them, or leave them tied out to a tree and they become bad dogs.
So, its peoples fault that their dogs are being banned. Its a really big shame, bc i have a pit mix and shes the sweetest thing ever.

and your question is???

In reality that was an opinion, not an answer.

Somebody
That is in fact true, but remember that there is a reason that those individuals pick the breeds that they do. It's called "predisposition" which makes it easier to train a dog for a specific function.
Predisposition is why I choose a Lab to hunt ducks, and a Beagle to hunt rabbits.

it honesly depends on the dog, it is neither fact or myth, its just a coincidence, the person did the worng thing at the wrong time. pit bulls are aggressive and are bred to fight wich is illegal. it is instinct that drives them.
