Because over a very, very long period of time tiny changes if different specific single-cell organisms and their offspring accumulated. More, single-cell organisms that accidentally united, becoming multi-celled organisms, had a distinct advantage. You should understand that even if all life began from a single cell, that single cell had many billions of descendants, and the production of each one was an opportunity for mutation--for a variety of reasons (such as reactions to changing environments, like an increase or decrease in saline content in water, for example).

Polyploidy and mutational events.
In some species, having a different chromosomal count doesn't have a significant effect on the organism (can still reproduce with older generations, despite having more chromosomes than the previous).
A good example of this would be many plants.
It gets a bit trickier with odd numbered chromosomes though...

Chromosomes came long after cells. Splitting and fusion of chromosomes is a relatively common event. A single chromosomal fusion event distinguishes humans from the other great apes. Fusion of chromosomes 13 & 14 occurs in about 1 in 1,300 live human births.

Even in humans there is variance in chromosone count, its called Down's Syndrome.
Presumably some where down the line, some organisms benefited having more, some less, with different types of each. Honestly you should construct your arguments a little better.

Or even different species-for that matter.
If we all came from the same pond scum, how then do we have so many different species.
Dogs, wolves, hyenas, cats, tigers, lions, spiders, roaches (have they evolved in the past million years---no. They are still the same ugly things they were in the beginning) millipedes, orangutans, chimpanzees, gorillas, humans--the list is endless.

Wow, good for you. You learned some big words. But if you do not know what they mean, you should try a dictionary, rather than pretending you know here and hope that no one else notices how goofy you sound.

Only retards believe that all life came from one cell.
Evolution does not explain where we came from........but it does explain how we turned into what we are today
