Do most christians think it's to much violence and blood or is it the fear of Gods laws in the bible?I know we are no longer under law but now we are under Gods grace through his son Jesus.

I have no Idea why other Christians would not accept the teachings of the old testament, i believe that God make 2 covenants with man, and the new supersedes the old but it does not do away with it.

the new testament is the completion of the full covenant.

People who say don't read the old testament need to rethink their attitude. They tend to think it's irrelevant, boring, outdated and sometimes too difficult to comprehend. They may also think it's only for the Jews'/Israellites. The law was for the Israellites / Jews and defined God's standard for living righteously, which no-one except Jesus, could ever do. I believe this is normally what people think of when they think of "Old Testament".

But throughout the OT, the same God of grace and justice (of the new testament) is at work

Unfortunately for these people, the Old Testament:
1. unlocks alot of the symbolism found in the New Testament
2. contains prophesies foretelling Jesus Christ's coming
3. contain a lot of accurate ancient history, including an account of creation, the first sin, the first marriage,
4. describes the law in detail, which is useful to see how much law-keeping we have been saved from(!)
5. shows how gracious God is.
6. shows how jealous God can be, and how much He hates sin.
7. and much more,,

so they are missing out on more than half the story!

Much of what Jesus and Paul talk about is based on the Old Testament, indeed when most of the new testament was written, the writings in the old testament were what the first Christians were reading too.

That said, even though we are not under law but under grace, we are under a new law - the law of love.

Which Christians say don't read the Old Testament?

Without the Old Testament there is no New Testament. Hence, no Bible. Hence, no Christians.

Most Christians do say that the Ten Commandments Law was nailed to the cross so Christians don't have to keep them anymore. I wonder if these Christians would like to lie, steal and sleep with their neighbor's wife? No, that's not it. They want to get rid of the Sabbath commandment. There is your answer.

I guess they don't read the bible for themselves.

I read the OT because its foundational, interesting, and you can learn alot.

However, I know that the Law was meant for a certain time in the world prior to the coming of the Messiah Jesus and therefore, no longer under the Jewish Law but under God's grace. We follow the law of love as taught by Jesus Christ, i.e., love God, our neighbor and ourselves.

Everyone on here who defends the o.t. is calling Jesus a liar whether you know it or not. The early christian church tried to destroy writings that did not agree with their official church doctrines like the trinity. They failed. Jesus makes it crystal clear in the Apocryphon of John that He and the Holy Spirit were created and not equal with God. He also makes it crystal clear that the god of the o.t. is satan, not His Father. Why do you think that the o.t. god does not show ANY of the fruits of the spirit?

My guess would be because there is a lot of stuff in the old testament that they would rather not hear.

My greatest biblical insight (to date) has come from reading and pondering the sequential development of insight seen in the books of Solomon (Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs.)

I believe that they are presented in that order for a reason!

Our church certainly doesn't say to not read the old testament. Can't imagine any church saying that. Isaiah is my favorite book. I think the entire bible is relevant.

there are alot of churches that only teach out of the new testament, I always heard in order to learn the new you need to learn the old. So am not sure why they do it.

They are wrong....

The Old Testament of the Bible is the prophecy and description of the coming Christ.

If you don't understand the Old Terstament, then you can never fully understand the New Testament.

The old testament still has merit. Because there are several examples of faithful people to strengthen us today.
