.
Aren’t there as many “gods” as there are people who admit to having a “god”?
People speak of and know of their own concept of a “god-figure” and each is completely unique and at the disposal of the holder – like puppeteers, we are keepers of our “gods.” Isn’t it true that each person who believes in “a god” seems to have the uncanny ability to make his “god” be whatever he wants it to be.
Consider this: When one says: “God wants…” isn’t he actually saying “MY god wants…”? …and in so saying, didn’t the speaker, the puppeteer-keeper of “god,” impose his own desire upon his personal “god”?
Your thoughts, please.

There are plenty of god-ideas out there... way to many, in fact.
No best answer so far... are you thinking or just giving a knee-jerk response?
Gosh... this might have to go to a vote.

There are lots of gods.
Particular religions claim their god or gods are the only ones.
Then they kill people who disagree.
Which kind of misses the point and disproves what they say.
Top of the list in the killings league are, of course, christianity and islam.

Yes there are many other Gods and Goddesses. Each have their own unique personalities.
Even the Abrahamic God acknowledges the existence of these other Gods in the 10 Commandments i.e. "Thou shalt have no other Gods before me."
What people don't realize is that this particular God was speaking to a particular group of people, NOT all the people on Earth. This was a personal God of Abraham and his descendants. You really only find Christians claiming that "their God" says certain things. Although Muslims are now getting into the "game".
It is, in my opinion, rather childish and very arrogant to think that anyone knows the will of any God.
Most other Gods and Goddesses aren't as jealous as the Abrahamic God is. They tend to be more accepting of others beliefs.
P.S. You can't go by today's mythologies of the Greeks and Romans because these are all tainted by the Christian hand, and made to look foolish by the Christians. Those are false mythologies, I believe that it is almost impossible now to tell what the early Greek and Romans believed about their Gods and Goddesses because Christianity has so tainted the whole study of them.

Pygmalion was right. You just gotta love the creative nature of the human mind. Take a stick, a knife, and whittle an object of worship! Perhaps that's why art was banned in Christianity for the first century. However, I don't see this as a religous, or Christian issue. For me, God is Ressurection. The personification of rebirth. If I am a child of a lesser God, so be it, and shame on me. But, if it works, I'll be pondering this point for eternity.

When you believe it makes it real. I don't "believe" in the Christian God so it doesn't feel very real to me. I don't doubt it is to them. THey believe in it. With out anyone to believe in Them, do they even exist? I suppose its one of those If the tree falls in the forest questions.
And everyone can call my Gods fake...but there were here before yours were ;)

How can you ask if there are more than one god. Look around you. There are thousands of gods. There is only one true god, mine, but there are lots of gods in all.

Sort of like pre-schoolers standing behind their daddy's legs and peering out at you? That is the way most of the frothy religious types strike me-- they feel they have the support of their "daddy" so they can stick their tongue out at you without fear of reprisal.
