I'm 64 years old, and I've been getting callouses on my vagina for many years. I can't afford to see the doctor so I have no idea what may be causing this problem. My husband is turned off by them and asked me if it was ok for him to go outside of the marriage. I was wondering what may be causing the callouses and if there is any possible way for me to get rid of them.

hi there, sweetheart...

some of these answers you've been getting are really rude and awful!
the only thing here I do agree with is that perhaps, you are looking at a case of warts--in which case, your husband has already been outside the marriage.
I did some searching for you and found this:
"The warts have the appearance of thick, scaly skin. They can occur as small, single warts or can cluster into large areas. These clustered warts are called mosaic warts. They often resemble plantar calluses. A simple way to tell the difference between a wart and a callous is to squeeze the lesion between your fingers in a pinching fashion. If this is painful, it is likely that the lesion is a wart."
This referred to genital warts as thick, scaly skin--sounds like what you are experiencing?
it's nothing to be ashamed or embarassed of--if you have been faithful, which it sounds like you have--then it's not your fault! my very dear friend had the same thing happen to her, in her long-term relationship, and it also ended up to be warts.
as someone commented here already, maybe look into a family-planning clinic or something. They are generally very kind there, and do their best to make you feel comfortable.

As for husband, I am so sorry to hear that he is "turned off by them" and actually had the nerve to ask "permission" to cheat on you! Big hugs to you on that note...

hope that helps, and *please* try not to listen to the rude comments on here!
good luck.

Callouses!?! Dang, girl, you must be gettin' real busy huh? If you're for real, those "callouses" could be herpes outbreaks. Just cough up the $$$ and go see a doctor. If you're truly indigent, go to your local county health unit clinic and talk to a nurse.

I don't think they're callouses. Sounds like genital warts to me. Click on the link below to check the signs and symptoms and treatment.

It sounds like Human papilloma virus, (HPV) which is an STD. I couldn't be sure though. It could be caused by, if your husband was exposed to HPV with someone else (and he didnt have symptoms) he could have passed it on to you nd now you're having symptoms. Its very important that you Go get checked. Sometimes the virus can live for YEARS with a man and he might not have even known about it. If you cant afford to go see a doctor you can go to Planned Parenthood, they will check you out and charge you based on your income. And NO its not ok for him to go outside the marriage. He can wait like a good boy and see what's wrong with you first.
If it turns out that its HPV they will freeze the warts off. You are at a higher risk of cervical cancer if you have HPV so GO GET CHECKED!!!!!!
