I am a Chinese girl, 14 years old. I will move to the US in a year and I have to have an English name, but I am not sure which one is the best. In China, most people have English names like Lily,Rose,Helen,May,Lisa,Alice and so on. I think these are too ordinary and hope to have a special one. But it will be better if it's easy to pronounce. Please tell me its meaning, too.
Thank you. (I'm 14 years old, female,Chinese)

I'am just courious why do you have to have an english name, why dont you use your own chosen name and make a name for yourself litterally. I think that would be best

The names you have listed are names that Chinese people chose for themselves. Most kids your age have names like Brittany and Jessica. Why don't you keep your chinese name, It's probably prettier. If you are really desperate how about emma or ella - like ella from S.H.E.

A Chinese friend of mine is called Europa, the first bit of world news after she was born was D.Day, and her parents gave her this name, living in China, with no notion that she would live in Europe most of her life.

You can select a name of something that happened in your life or to do with America.
If you choose America, what about a name based on the name of one of the states?
Louisa, for Louisiana, or Georgiana for Georgia. (If you are happy with the L or the R which might be harder for you to pronounce.)
Missy for Mississippi,
Virginia, like the state, this means like the virgin, for the Queen Victoria. You could also take the name Victoria because of that connection.
Penny or Sylvania for Pennsylvania.
Carolina, for North or South Carolina.
Montana, while not a common name would be nice too, (it means mountains or mountainous.)

But whatever name you select, pick one that has a meaning for you, because you will need to explain often why you are using it.
And for having to have an English name, you can also use your Chinese name, if the English speakers can pronounce it. Or use an Anglicized version of you Chinese name if you like that better.

Personally, it irritates me when Chinese friends taken on English names - I mean, it's your or their choice, but I would prefer if you stayed true to yourself with your own name!

That said, if you really want an English name, why not choose the most similar name to your Chinese name?
