What you see as push they may feel as part of a divine assignment. True some may push to hard and other may use it to try to lord over you but the real genuine people are doing it because they want to help. You know next time they come ringing your bell... instead of being mad.. you just ask them this the above question... if they can't answer it then you know they just want to push it down your throat... but if they use a bible to answer it then you will know they are just doing their divine assignment and you might learn something new or you can simply say no and the end of the story.

I know some people do try to push their doctrine off on people. But religion is what it is religion nothing more.
Now someone asking you if you have been saved ( BORN AGAIN) they are just concerned about your soul. You do realize it's the most precious thing we own, don't you ?
They are not trying to be mean or bully you.Or at least I hope not. Most just want you to see the love of Christ and what changes he can make in your life. So, don't take everyone as being pushy - that's not their intent.

I agree with Yoda Gre…But I asked myself this all the time, 'If money is the root of all evil why do churches beg for money' ?
Go to church because you want to. Do your own reading and understand things yourself before you start listening to other people.
There's nothing more annoying to see people preach, and then see them walk out of church cursing the person blocking them outside the church parking lot! More than once I have seen this happen. And makes me appreciate that I am not the person acting all holy to other people. Being all holy doesn't mean make you holier by showing off what you know! Its the actions from the heart and good intentions for other people that make you a true person! But, once again this is just an opinion. There is a chance I might be wrong. :)

I don't know maybe it's for similar reasons that some Atheists feel compelled to push their Atheism down some people throats

Maybe some people need to know the difference of shoving it down your throat, and politley telling.
I as a Christian, will politely tell you, but I would NEVER shove any thing down your throat. That's just gross!

Not all of us do but if anyone asks, I won't deny I'm a Christian. If its helps, people who truly love Jesus are more interested in becoming your friend and helping you in life - they won't push it down your throat (it might come back up and that wouldn't be pretty!!!)

Love of self rather than love of others.
And perhaps the "action" helps validate their beliefs (what educators call experiential learning?), which cannot be proved or tested and therefore despite very loud public proclamation may, at their core, be quite shaky.
I'm not in AA myself, but know many who are, and they've got this fundamental approach of "attraction, not promotion." If what you've got is useful, people will seek it out. You won't have to cram it down anyone's throat.

God forgive them, they know not what they do
:) Because they really do think they are doing the right thing. Its human nature to want everyone to think like you. It makes you right. There is a lot of reasons. But it is frusterating and I admit more then a little scary sometimes. To be honest it does turn me off completly of christianity when they do it. But I do try to remember that they really are trying to be nice.

This is why jehovahs witnesses do it:
We believe the following article/scriptures to be true and are sincerely trying to save people from the fate we believe the world is heading to:
http://www.watchtower.org/library/t19/survive.htm
So next time you see one of us knocking please keep this article in mind and if you really do not want us calling on you again inform the witness that calls on you that you know what we believe and why and that you would rather take your chances with possibly dying than listen to what we have to say.
Also tell them to make a note on their record not to call on you again. Just remember that according to our beliefs we have a God given responsiblity to warn people and possibly save them from what is going to happen to this world. Or else we ourselves could be bloodguilty before God.
Thank you for reading and being understanding with us for those of you that took the time to read the article.
