The meekness must be appllied in our life on earth. What Jesus meant was: even the earth will be inherited by the meek, leave alone the heaven!
Want to see the meek which will inherit the earth?
One ecample: look at the meek animals: the deer. Being hunted on and on around the earth, they still survive, while the tough tigers and lions are closing to extinction.
Look at the worms underneath. When the atomic blasts destroyed and kill every creature on earth, the meek worm will still be crawling undeb\neath.

The Greek word translated “blessed” means "spiritual well-being and prosperity." This refers to the deep joy of the soul. Those who experience that first aspect of a beatitude (poor, mourn, meek, hungry for righteousness, merciful, pure, peacemakers, and persecuted) will also experience the second aspect of the beatitude (kingdom of Heaven, comfort, inherit the earth, filled, mercy, see God, called sons of God, inherit the kingdom of Heaven). The blessed have a share in salvation, and have entered the kingdom of God, experiencing a foretaste of heaven. Another possible rendering of each beatitude is an exclamation of: "O the bliss [or blessedness] of..."

The Beatitudes describe the ideal disciple, and his rewards, both present and future. The person whom Jesus describes in this passage has a different quality of character and lifestyle than those still "outside the kingdom."

The meek will inherit the Earth after all of the greedy, self-righteous mofos are done raping the land of all of it's precious resources and there is nothing left to be had. After the greedy have all killed themselves off by stepping over one another to get to the top and the whimpy meek just sit there watching it all and not do anything to prevent all of the gluttony.
They will inherit the barren wasteland- for sure.

Meek are humble, teachable, nice people. Nobody, not even God, likes pompous blowhards. You can see them every week on TV "look at ME!!! Look at ME!! I am sure GREAT!!"

They inherit the earth because God's original purpose was for perfect men to never die on earth to make it a Paradise starting with Eden and work outwards.

People going to heaven wasn't thought of till Jesus established a small group going with him to rule in his Kingdom. The Bible limits the number of those but it says a "great crowd which no man was able to number" would be part of that Paradise Earth. Whichever group you are in is going to be great; six of one/ half-dozen of the other.

The best definition of meek I've seen is "quietness with strength". The earth is where we will spend our days in eternity, once the new heaven and new earth are created. Read Revelation 21.

The 'meek' I think are the ones who are not aggressive and constantly out, 'on the make', trying to GET something. So the opposite of what is admired in America. The meek mind their own business and just live decent lives.

Well why Earth? The 'movers and shakers' always seem to do THEMSELVES in don't they? And what a spectacle it is when one of them falls. Politicians for example, always having dirty secrets that eventually come to light. So the people who just live a decent life end up 'winning' in life, so to speak.

The earth is the abode of human being whereas the purpose of God is to live and subdue in paradise earth to time indefinite. Heaven is the abode of spiritual being. Jesus Christ and the 144,000 will become a priests and will rule the earth for a thousand years after Armageddon.

The prayer of Jesus in Mathew.....Our father who art in heaven holy be thy name, THY KINGDOM COME, THY WILL BE DONE ON EARTH ALSO UPON HEAVEN. Jesus Christ knows that the earth will remain to time indefinite and the meek ones will posses on it.

I always think of meekness as not asking for anything, not fighting back or competing - all the nasty stuff that destroys good character.
