Hitler killed more than Jews, Hitler wanted to kill anyone who wasn't German, or who had any physical or mental problems.
Hitler was greatly influence by Charles Darwin and his Theory of Evolution. Hitler believed that the German people were the most advanced race of people, and all others were inferior. For Darwin's theory of survival of the fittest to be true, all other inferior species had to die. Hitler was making sure the inferiors would die off rapidly, so his MASTER RACE would rule faster.
Hitler picked mainly on the Jews first, because the world didn't like them, and he thought he could wipe them out with no opposition. He also virtually wiped out the Gypsies and other small groups.
Hitler was greatly influenced by Darwin's evolution and survival of the fittest theories
When you follow Darwin, you have to turn your back on God, and autrocities like Hitler become a reality.

Historical Answer: He used them as a scapegoat to unite the German people under his control. He also saw them as a threat to his Aryan race. Despite the propaganda of Jews being worthless, he actually considered them to be the second best race. Also, they had a **** load of cash to confiscate. History Channel Answer: Also, Hitler was heavily into the occult, and by exterminating the Jewish race he could theoritically prevent the Apocalypse. This may sound controversial, but the Christian Bible actually states that Jesus will come again the judge the living and the dead when all the Jews have converted to Christianity. By exterminating all the Jews, they couldnt convert to Christianity, and therefore there would be no Apocalypse to worry about. That may sound nuts, but remember...it is Hitler we're talking about here.

Actually, it was very simple. The German people were suffering greatly. The economy was in the sewer. Perhaps you have a picture in a textbook of a kid with a wheelbarrel full of German money to buy bread. They were very divided and scattered.
Hitler & company knew they had to unite the people into one powerful force for themselves to exploit as well as saving the country. After WW1, the winners tried their best to destroy Germany so Hitler's work was cut out for him.
They did this by telling the people all their problems came from only ONE source--the JEWS and spat! The jews were bankers and merchants. They were visible and handy. Remember, the reason does not have to make sense, it just has to be shouted long and hard and have the object of hatred handy. You can convence a mob of almost anything with that technique.
In fact, Jewish merchants supported Hitler with money in the beginning. He just needed them for another purpose.
There have been many high school and college experiments on this. In one, students were told of rewards for getting the most students to sample the most disgusting tasting cookies ever made and they sampled them beforehand. The results were cheerleaders and football players scored the highest. In another, classes were divided into sections with colors. Sometimes eye color was used, other trials used arm bands. Then one group was told they were better than all other groups. A few days later, it was changed to another group. In each case, the superior group acted like it. Lording it over others.
Hitler told the German people they were the superior race and jews were the cause of all their problems. That is how he did it.

The guy directly above me "Ted" has it right, and deserves best answer. His answer not only gave facts but was not slanted with his own personal bias.
I'm sorry but after reading some of the answer's above me I have to say something...There is quite a bit of dispute about what Hitler's true religious views and belief's were. When I say dispute I mean the scholars even dispute that he was a Christian.
It is my belief that Hitler used Christianity as a way of gaining popularity among those groups who may have been powerful enough to oppose him. much like politician's today, he claimed to be on the side of the people (IE: The German Christian), by gaining popularity he could carry out his own plans. He used Christianity against itself.
The link below will show you what I mean.
Hitler actually made many private statements to those close to him expressing his lack of respect and belief in Christianity. You have to read more than HIS own biography to get the whole picture.

Hi, you really should do a search for detailed information regarding this question as people have so many conflicting answers, This is what I have gleaned from some research myself;
Hitler was at first very much impressed with Marks and Engels and other communist thinkers but became suspicious of them when he learned that they were Jews and came to believe that they were plotting the downfall of the German people whom he dearly loved, he mistrust the power of the Jewish bankers and blamed them for the economic situation of Germany after the first world war.
However it has to be said that Hitler was voicing an opinion of Jews that many other nations held too but kept silent about,in fact very few countries were willing to help Jews during the holocaust, and stand condemned by their silence and lack of action.

Oh boy, I don't know where to start as I don't want this answer to consume pages and pages. There was a Depression and to add to the German misery they had to pay for the damage they caused in World War 1. Jewish people in Germany were extremely work oriented and were thriving way better than the average German. Hitler got German recognition in the German political arena BUT he wanted it all to become the Chancellor and eventually the Dictator. He needed a scapegoat so who could be better than the well healed Jews of that time. He brain washed the Germans into thinking that they were the Master Race and the Jews were the scum of Europe. If you have ever seen a video of him talking you can see that he was a "evil but brilliant orator" He started taking the Jewish wealth and privlidges away little by little. He banned great German poets like Henrich Heine and burned the books which would have proven Hitler to be wrong. It was done slowly at first until the Germans were used to it and really believed they were the Master Race and the Jews were in a tight noose and then what Hitler called the Final Solution which was the death of almost all of Europe's Jewish population.

It was the combined result of many factors: "racism, centuries-old bigotry renewed by a nationalistic fervor which emerged in Europe in the latter half of the 19th century, fueled by Germany's defeat in World War I.
Hitler, perverting the ideas of Social Darwinism, felt that the Jews were an evil that was at the root of Germany's problems and must be therefore eliminated. Hitler claimed that Germany never really lost World War I but was stabbed in the back by a Jewish/Communist conspiracy.
It was not one set condition, not one set event, but a combination of things led to the Holocaust.
You must do a thorough research on the Internet, don`t take for granted what people say on here.

He disliked loose living in Berlin. He didn't like revolution which he associated with Jews and socialists so far as I can remember. Every political leader is used by the people to promote the ideas of powerful factions. For example, Corrie ten Boom in Holland later received an award from the Jews for putting 800 Jews in a cupboard during WWII. I think it was her father, actually. In my opinion, intracultural relations are more intense than intercultural relations, because knowledge of family matters is where it hurts the most.
Here's a poem:
I never put a Jew in a cupboard.
I never hope to put one.
But I can tell you anyhow
The award was not called "Gut, Mann!"
Himmler was awful. Here's the text of part of his speech to the Posen Conference - below.
The thing about psychotic people is that anybody who takes them seriously is just doing it to be passive-aggressive. I think that it's better for people to talk even if it's crazy-talk. At least then somebody knows what's happening and can do something about it sooner rather than later. Anybody who doesn't realise that somebody else seems psychotic has got problems themselves. Besides that, Hitler went through different stages in his career. At times, he was prayerful in public and seems quite calm.
Besides that, mythology (which puts rewards off into the future - Hitler was talking about a 1000 year Reich) relies on archetypes. Those who are deemed to be closer to the archetypes - children, Jews, indigenous people - are examined for clues to the "past." They can also be blamed for not having done more! This is out of all proportion to their work. In fact, it sometimes seems like the work just invites more criticism than not doing it. Archetypes are supposed to be archetypal, archaic even. The thing about archetypes is that they don't exist, except in the imagination.

He used the Jewish people as a scapegoat for Germany's loss of the war and the economic depression. The Jews were very affluent compared to the ordinary German so it was very easy for him to convince the masses. Read Hitler's Mein Kampf.
Peace and every blessing!

The short answer is that Hitler used a minority in his country to manipulate the rest of the people in Germany.
Germany was going through hard economic times, and the Jewish people were still staying relatively stable due to the fact that many were small business owners.
Since they looked different enough, he could blame them for the bad economy and hard times that the Germans faced but calling them inferior and trying to eradicate the inferiority. He also blamed them for the loss of WWI--the "stab in the back theory".
People that are desperate will tack onto to anything that will seem like a solution, and on top of that they have a fall guy.
What a perfect plan in his mind. What a horrible plan for those that had to endure it.

1. Personal Hatred.
2. You have to look at the history of Germany to understand it more in depth.
Germany was forced to pay reparations for being part of World War I. The reparations were extremely high and were bankrupting the country. Litterally, at one point, a wheelbarrow full of money wouldn't even buy a loaf of bread.
His people were in dire straights and desperate. They couldn't keep living in forced abject poverty.
It was the perfect time for a madman to step in with promises to save them all.
Historically, its shown that conquering nations gain money and power. Its one of the reasons why Rome stayed in power for as long as it did. And it worked in this case too.
So, Hitler promoted war. It brought his people together and made germany a dangerous nation to be reconned with as well as a country that could not be ignored. Its quite possible that Germany would currently be ruling the world if the US had not stepped in to help demoralized, soldiers that had lost alot of family, and been fighting way too long (so long that they were no longer properly supplied because their parent countries couldn't create the goods fast enough to support them properly).
So, it wasn't specifically the Jews, it was everyone.
Hitler was completely insane and he deserved every nasty thing that could have happened to him. But you have to admit, he was a political genius.
You should watch some of the old newsreels sometime. Watch him speak. You can't understand a word but the man was extremely charismatic and could probably convince you the sky was purple polka dots if he wanted to. He was that good. And that dangerous.
