Would anyone like to guess the color and pattern possibilities in a German Shepherd litter? I know them. Just want to see if the genetic buffs would like to guess. The sire is a grey (silver sable) who is out of a white bred to a red sable. The Dam is a black and silver out of a black bred to a black and tan. What colors and patterns could we get from this breeding?

White is not disqualifying in the US either. Just AKC conformation. The whites in this pedigree are UKC Champions and Grand Champions in the breed. Given what is known about it, there would be 50% one pattern, 25% another and 25% the 3rd. If the first responder really read the question, then they would know that I said that I new the possiblitlies already!!

Can't find enough on GSD color genetics on the net but sable is dominate so it'd be 50% sables and from what we have in my breeds genetics I'm guessing silver sable.

Been known to be left going "ohh WHAT color was that parent/son, who I patted on the head" when puppy "guess color/sex" pools go out on breed lists. Guess I take the color immaterial part of the standard seriously

Since sable is a dominant color, my guess would be that half the litter would be red sables. Stronger colors are preferred, so I'm thinking they're also dominant, so at least 25% of the litter should be black and tan, and 25% silver sable. I don't know that you'd get any white if there's only whites on 1 side of the pedigree. Just as a point of interest to all the white shepherd haters, I read that the breed founder, Max von Stephanitz said "no good dog has a bad color".

You are asking about probabilities in genetics? Hah! Good one!
Unless you do the statistical calculations, you just don't know what you are going to get.

And by the way, white is not a disqualifiying fault in other parts of the world. It is in the U.S.

Get your dogs spayed and neutered and you won't have to ask silly questions like this. A reputable breeder would know.
