Go into your "room" (see quotation?), close the door. Meditate on the goodness of the Lord , praise Him, count His blessings, think of every goodness you'd gain from Jesus; until you seem forget about earthly things (the lights which have not been turned off; the children are shouting around on the lawn, etc.) That is the situation where you can hear the Lord speaking into your heart.
Follow-up: obey His instructions He put into your heart.
Later on, it will be easier for you to attain the same spiritual state in the future.
All those activities can be done wherever place you might be in.

Jesus built the perfect place in three days. In the heart. I have found that it is the noise and busyness in life and my state of mind that keeps me from hearing him. When I feel that I still can not connect with Him. I say this "All I want is to be where you want me to be". The Holy Spirit reminds me as I say this that God is sovereign and God knows exactly where I am and will deliver me in his good timing to grow and prosper me as His Good Word promises. It is wise to watch for what God can be teaching you and grow in times of strife than to merely persevere and learn nothing.

Try a bedroom or a bathroom, that is the most common place people cry out for a god.

You have to find your own place. I prefer to go on an overnight camp out alone to Pray, and Meditate.

You don't have to go far. If you will believe it, God is in you. He will hear your prayers wherever you are. And you can commune with Him in any language and He will understand.

Why did I say God is in you? It is because there is part of God in us--and that is our soul. That came from God. That is why God knows everything that we say, we do, and we think.
