I use AVG and have had no problems with it at all and has not slowed my pc down. There is a free and pay for version of AVG, just make sure you download the free one.

Avast! For Sure. I have tried both and I can tell you that avast is better than avg in everything, from the speed of downloading new virus definitions, from the speed of v. scan to heuristics. In addition avast is more user friendly and by the way both have a commercial and a free for home use edition.

Grisoft makes a free version and a pay version of AVG Antivirus. The free version is available here:

Which is better? They have roughly the same rate of detection (80%). For free, either works well.

AVG has a simpler user interface. Avast's default user interface is flashy and makes it slower. I would go with AVG.

Anti-Virus is not a complete security solution. You also need some sort of active spyware blocking. Also consider a firewall. Comodo is a good free firewall:

AVG is good. You can always turn off the automatic daily virus scan for AVG so your computer does not slow down during the scanning process; however, it's safer to run the scan... give and take.

AVG anivirus is the best. It does not put load on your computer like Norton does. I would recommend using avg internet security but you have to pay for it or for the other way contact me at colensoc@yahoo.com contact me. Believe me avg internet security is the best. It removes viruses, spyware and spam. Best of all it is the lightest and does not strain your pc in anyway.

Avast is a very good tool, I just find the interface complicated for normal users.
AVG is a good one, clean and easy to understand interface, but I personally find it a bit weak at removing virus/trojans once your PC is infected.
