I found a neat little webpage with some good figures on it to help people understand our insignificance in the universe. Following is a quote from part of the linked site.
Our Solar System has nine planets.
Our galaxy, the Milky Way, contains 400 billion stars.
The Universe contains at least 130 billion galaxies.
Therefore, the number of stars in the cosmos is 400 times 130 or 50,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 (50,000 billion billion).
All of the sand on the beaches of the earth total 2,000 billion, billion grains.
Toss a handful of sand into the air and the number of sand grains you see will approximate the number of stars in the visible Milky Way at night. "
I just can't understand how anyone who knows these facts can believe that this is all about us, and that some supreme entity created it all just for the sake of putting a bunch of primates on our tiny little pebble of a planet.

And god supposedly created all that for humans (intellectual mammals). It’s utterly ridiculous and demonstrates well just how humble some people are when they believe all existence revolves around them.

I have told this story before in this forum. A few years ago I was at a ranch in central Texas helping to conduct a bird survey. We went out on a very clear night to look for owls. The stars were incredible. We were scanning the sky with our spotting scope and I was blown away by just how vast it all was. I had this amazing sense of joy. I turned to my companion and said "THIS is why I don't believe in God!"
I realized at the same time that when I was a christian I was amazingly arrogant. I expected God to be interested in the most trivial things. For someone who was taught that humility was a virtue I was way off base!

You go right ahead and feel insignificant. Since I was created just a little lower than the angels and all that universe was created for me to rule over with others , I will feel special. The bible tells me that we will rule in heaven and even judge the angels. Your friendly neighborhood Satan has you convinced that you are nothing special. come on, stop falling for that trick. You and others see it as arrogance, but it is actually confidence and knowledge of who we are as human beings. If you think that all these great spheres of dirt and metals are more important than you simply because of their numbers, then you are not thinking, loving, enjoying, laughing, caring, helping, creating, singing, learning, developing, planning, sharing, preparing, teaching, or feeling the wondrous aspects of an existence of purpose. You have never enjoyed the exaltation of knowing that an all mighty creator wants to share life with you, as insignificant as you think you might be. Let Jupiter or Saturn or all those stars try to do that , instead of just sitting there and spinning in the same path for thousands of years after years and going nowhere.

The significant difference is this: God decided to make man in His own image and likeness. He didn't make anything else in that fashion. That is why it is an insult to say we descended from apes or bananas or anything else. Sand is not as important to God as us. Your argument is similar to this: because there are 300,000,000 people in a certain country, a little child in that same country is insignificant, and worth nothing. Hopefully, you'll never be elected to public office...

Your question is about 3 000 years old. It was asked by King David. "Psa 8:4 What is man, that you keep him in mind? the son of man, that you take him into account? ". We do recognize how insignificant we are.
But we also recognize that the God we have is omnipresent, omniscient, omnipotent, and love (agape)
Give us a better alternative, please. We may consider it.

Lord Krishna is the supreme absolute controller, whose form is pure immortality, omniscience and bliss. He is without beginning, the origin of all, the cause of all causes and the source of the eternal Vedas.

Though we are small in physical size as compared to the universe, there are a few "big" things to consider about human beings. We are self aware. We can remember the past and make plans for the future. We can love. We can know truth. We can apprecitate beauty. We are made in GOD's image.
So there is something special about people.
We are eternal..........
And will live forever, somewhere............
heaven or hell............
you decide................

I look at the beauty and individuality of all of the different things on earth and I cannot fathom how God would think me insignificant to make each one of us related, yet individual. If we were truly insignificant then I would expect to be exact replicas that would not have taken so much thought.

I believe that we are here for God's pleasure and for His purposes. Without God nothing makes sense, really.
I enjoy this cosmic masterpiece. I am happy to be a tiny part of it. My life has significance and I find my purpose in loving God. : )
