I was thinking I should buy a few canvases, chuck paint on them - maybe roll around or walk all over them etc - then claim the resulting mess is a metaphor for the chaos of modern life, blah blah.

Then I could stick them up in a gallery, and charge £50k a piece.

Do you think this would work? I do - I've seen worse crap for sale.

its already been done. but that shouldnt really matter, more often than not when you see stuff like that its done by people who spent years studying art, only then are they taken seriously enough to get away with it. "all art is quite useless". Like everything else, the only value a painting has is the price someone is willing to pay for it. if enough people want the painting the price goes up to the highest bid (or estimated highest bid) the trouble is making enough people want the painting, so there has to be something more to it, a background or name to the artist, an interesting theme, a new idea or the aesthetics of the piece etc. so yes it could work, if you make it interesting enough to enough people (with enough money) Good luck to ya.

Well, yes. However, it is also essential for you to create a "history" for yourself. You must have suffered some sort of depression, eating disorder and disability in your life but managed to rise above adversity etc etc. Wear lots of creased linen and big black glasses - also, leave your hair unbrushed and unwashed. I think you will do very well indeed.

possible. you must also have: a reputation as a great artist, or very wealthy, popular, and influential friends that would be willing to convince other wealthy people that you are a great artist and that your art is worth 50k. the rest are starving artists and just hope to be famous after they are dead.

It could make you millions if it looks good. Chaos can look horrible or beautiful or anywhere in between. Why not make it beautiful so people will want to look at it and buy it?

I think it only works if you are already famous.

You could stick your bed in art gallery or cut a cow in half perhaps.
