cromoly is lighter and just as strong as a steel fork 4 racing the lighter the better

your steel fork is going to be much heavier but at the same time will take a pounding much more. the chromoly is a chrome alloy and is alot lighter so for racing some people say lighter is better.

Chromoly is steel. It is simply an alloy that is designed to be lighter. The steel you are seeing is probably "hi-tensile" steel - another term for really cheap metal.
