Lovemaking-actually in love with each other---sex-just a romp in bed

The difference, I think, mainly has to do with the emotional commitment of the parties involved, although, there are exceptions.Obviously, Lovemaking is almost always Sex, but Sex doesn't neccesarily always have to be Lovemaking. Sex, as understood to be the physical stimulation of ones genitalia, usually with the assistance of another person, can be quite meaningful in so many ways for the participants without ever evoking a mutual and enduring feeling of Love. People can go their whole lives, having Sex with numerous partners, in every concievable possible position, without ever once Making Love. Many people actually start out on this path thinking they will find Love if they have Sex with enough people, yet they never do, and they become obsessed with, and addicted to the hollow sensuality they have found, eventually forsaking their original intent of finding Love all together. Sex can be used as Tool to get what you want from somebody, even a weapon at times(possibly the best weapon ever) Sex is just so deeply connected to the most sensitive parts of people's minds and bodies...it releases powerful energies, which can be directed with the proper skill to obtain just about any end.
Here is where Lovemaking comes in. Lovemaking is a simple and wonderful thing(perhaps The most wonderful thing) Lovemaking is when all of that potential energy released during Sex is used for the singular purpose of re-inforcing a state of mutual and enduring love, usually between two people. Lovemaking involves much more than just sex...it is the ultimate admission of utter humanity between the people involved. It is a promise: when making love, your deepest vulnerabilities are revealed and shared...there is an unspoken promise of mutual protection....safety, comfort, warmth, pleasure...Making Love can be said to be the first step in the building of a Home....

When you really are in love you don't need to have sex anymore but you are bonded to your partner in love. Sometimes lovemaking is just holding hands at dinner and a gentle kiss goodnight.

Lovemaking is sitting in the same room as your partner and just being comfortable without even speaking.

Love making is a poem

I saw a man twenty years my junior
He looked just like my husband when he was young
I saw the girl kiss her man and my jaw just dropped
The way the two just clung
I am older now and past my prime
But these two made me smile
I know what would happen when he gets her home
and I had to say I love his style.

My husbands like this man I saw
Not afraid to kiss me on the street
And when we were younger as young as these two
He never really missed a beat
Hooray for lovers and the way of God
Hooray for you guys and girls
Take hold of that gentleman that will kiss you in public
to death till you part my friends.

Sex is the physical union of two sets of sexual organs either for procreation or pleasure while lovemaking should ideally be the framework around which the sex act is based. Lovemaking consists of loveplay/foreplay prior to the sex act with a physical display of affection following the sex act. A man who either (a) resents the foreplay and indulges half-heartedly or refuses to indulge at all or (b) simply turns over and falls asleep after the sex act is not a good lover. A woman needs to be worshipped and adored (e.g. kissed all over) at each stage of lovemaking.

They both mean the same end result - intercourse, which is what nature and evolution has conferred on all of us, whether humans or any other living creature on this planet.

Humans started calling it 'lovemaking' in order to try to mask the raw animal reality of the act, justifying the name by indicating that intelligent humans are not like our fellow animals and live on a 'higher intellectual level' - but it doesn't matter how intelligent we become, we do it the same way as animals. And why not?

Depends on the situation and the mood.

Most of the time, sex is with someone strictly for pleasure, but lovemaking is between two people who are in love and are showing their love in that manner.

With that being said, I have had "sex" with someone I loved, but I have never made love to someone I didn't...

I could debate this answer for hours.

Short version... sex is an act.... it can be enjoyable and fun, but there is little to no emotional connection. This is where i would categorize the one night stands, or those "Men" women sleep with and then regret later, etc.

Lovemaking is rare and only something you do with that one person. There is a deep emotional connection, that feeling of indescribable joy when you are with her (or him). It is the best sex ever, and adds an element only those who have truly made love to someone before can understand.

Sex is about people focusing what makes themselves feel good. Lovemaking is about two people focusing on making both feel good. It's kind of like being two individual players vs two people working together, though that probably doesn't capture the romantic context.

Sex is just a physical act. Lovemaking on the other hand is not only physical, it is a spiritual and uplifting experience.
Oh s***, I 've just re-read what I've written and realised I'm getting all philosophical, where's me beer?
