"Religion" from a scriptural point of view has nothing to do with wealth or education - but is more an attitude of the heart and approach to life:
Jam 1:26 If anyone thinks to be religious among you*, [and yet] does not bridle [fig., control] his tongue _but_ deceives his heart [fig., inner self, and throughout book], the religion of this one [is] useless.
Jam 1:27 Pure and undefiled religion before [our] God and Father is this: to be caring for orphans and widows in their affliction [and] to be keeping oneself unspotted [fig., uncorrupted] by the world.

No not really.
But then again, some religions, like disease, thrive on chaos, misery and ignorance.
This is particularly the case with religious cults thick with simplistic idol worship, with doctrines of complete obediance and active punishment of non-believers.
For example, christianity thrived because of its appeal to the uneducated. In the end, under the reign of Theodosius around 380 CE, he gave these christians free reign to destroy the ancient world and all its knowledge- heralding the "Dark Ages".
Now today, some religious leaders are keen to see a revival of sorts- considering all things of this modern world as evil.

No...absolutely not.
It's a popular theory among atheists that believers are uneducated. They think this because they believe their logic to be the ultimate.
Many, many believers are highly educated. Ancient and modern day theologians have always been educated. For example, Scott Hahn is a well known theologian of today. graduated with a triple major of theology, philosophy, and economics (magna *** laude). He obtained his M.Div. (summa *** laude) and he earned his Ph.D.
That's just one...there are many believers with similar education and backgrounds.
As for being poor...religion is for all...but rich people may have a harder time. Christianity tells us to not value the things of this world but of the next. Money and material value seem to go together.

The worship of God, our creator, is for everyone.
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free person, there is not male and female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's descendant, heirs according to the promise. (Galatians 3:28-29)
With love in Christ.
