You can help yourself with the help of a doctor! By the way, why do you want to leave? Is there a shortage of stuff in the kitchen with funds being denied by the Congress?

Well first of all you have to have a medical condition. Then you need to see a doctor. The doctor must verify your condition, then your medical records go before a medical board. If you are seen as not medically fit you will be discharged.

Someone above me put it ever so eloquently; "stick with it and finish your enlistment" a medical discharge doesn't look good on a resume. Just do what you have to do and get an honorable discharge!

well, first you need a medical problem, a history of it and a doctor to back you up. go to legal to find out about they different types of discharges there are maybe they can give you a resource to look into the different types of discharges that will also include the paperwork needed for each type of discharge. (army veteran, worked as Operations Room NCO which included legal paperwork)

Well, I don't think you should try that unless you really have something wrong with you, but if something is wrong...first go to the TMC. Ask the MD to have a medical phyiscal and that you that your injury or illness might require a medical board and see if he agrees or not. If they find something that warrants it, then it will be passed up the chain and at some point you will recieve a medical board. But like I said, there needs to be something wrong with you. And this process takes a LONG time.....

Uh, fail a psychiatric assessment duh. Mental health qualifies as a medical issue. Even if you can't get discharged it'll certainly buy you some time to flee to Canada.

Pick a mental health condition like stress disorder or depression, research it WELL and develop the ability to cry convincingly for no apparent reason at all. They'll probably try and medicate you, but sedatives are fine and if they try and give you anti-psych meds they'll be expecting them not to work that great until they figure out exactly what's wrong.

The trick is to find that balance between "fine" and "totally crazy" where you don't get hospitalised but still get to go home.

Good luck.

In the old days they tried anything from peeing in their bed to excessive indebtedness to shooting off their trigger finger. In most cases it did not work and they ended up getting court martial-ed. Don't screw up your life, try to gut it out until your ETS. The easy out now will haunt you through the rest of your civilian life. Even some employers will not place much confidence in you for responsible positions. Most important you will lack confidence in yourself.
What you can do is try to get out of your Military Occupational Specialty. Having been in the service you and I know that being a cook sucks big time and has little relation to a cook in civilian life. Good luck and hang in there. Every soldier I ever knew wanted out at sometime.

If you have a medical problem, talk to your CO and the military doctors. Be patient as there is going to be a lot of paperwork and exams/evaluations involved, but if you really have a serious medical condition, they can speed up your discharge.

well, what is the medical reason you want out? they don't just hand them out for minor things like headaches. you must have a legitimate problem that interferes with your daily duties.

you start by going to Sick Call and working your eway from there. A Med Board must be convened to detremine whether or not discharge is recommended.
