I know there is one, I just don't know what it is. I am also not sure if one method is more accurate at reading temperature.

average oral temperature is 98.6. average rectal temperature is 99.6. rectal temperature is considered more accurate, but you do have to report to the doctor or nurse that it was a rectal temperature so they'll know the true temperature.

For the most part, oral is accurate enough. The main reason they take a rectal temperature is because somebody can't hold a thermometer in their mouth or there's a risk of biting it.
