The Antonov AN-225 is the world's HEAVIEST aircraft and is used mainly for military and cargo flights.
The largest aircraft in terms of passenger capacity currently is the Boeing 747-400 and it's various versions.
The largest airliner, again in terms of passenger capacity, which is expected to start commercial flights sometime later next year is Airbus A-380.

The A380 by Airbus is world’s largest commercial aircraft. Singapore Airlines plans to add this plane to its fleet in in October of this year. Lufthansa, Qantas, Emirates, Air France, and Virgin Airlines have committed to order A380s, however, production delays and changes required to airport runways and gate areas (due to the plane's size) have been problematic and may ultimately limit the use and success of this plane.
