Historically, Spanish has been the majority language in the Americas because of early Spanish exploration and conquest; Also because of a gentleman's agreement by the British government with the Pope not to interfere in any Spanish territories.
However, in the long run, it is somewhat imperiled in the Western Hemisphere by both American English and Brazilian Portuguese. Chile and Argentina may eventually become its last sanctuaries in Latin America.
I have always consdidered Spanish to be one of the most beautiful and melodious languages in the world. Nevertheless, it seems that things like cultural, economic, politcal and military power are what determine which language will prevail. This is why Catalán eventually lost out to Castilian (Spanish) even in Spain.

Of course. Why not ?
By the way, it is getting more and more extended in USA, despite how much the yanks hate it, basically because of the immigration from Latin America, and the fact that yanks have sex strictly according to the law, and since in USA sex is most usually illegal, they don't do it and therefore, they barely reproduce, whereas the immigrants, who don't believe such nonsense, reproduce like any normal group of population

Of course I'm proud, I speak both, Spanish and English, but my roots are Latin. Is so good when you can speak with more than 10 millions of people, from different countries. That even when we look different and have different cultures and ideas we got something that join us all together, the Spanish. ¡Que viva la cultura Latina y el orgullo de ser Latino, ño!

Sure, even though I don't speak it very well. I think North Americans should be required to learn both Spanish and English (as should South Americans) instead of just speaking English.

Nothing to be pround of. The vast majority of Spanish speakers in N. America are Mexicans. Mexicans have ruined their own country, through lack of ethics, principals and morals, resulting in widespread corruption from the top down......their whole society is corrupt. A corrupt society affects the economy and their standard of living. Since their land is now so unhealthy with lack of opportunity, they come ILLEGALLY to N. America and have also brought their corruption with them....but we will not put up with that...simply look at the prison populations in CA, AZ and TX. There is nothing to be pround of the Spanish language in N. America. Different story in Europe though.
